League announces dates and times for division-round games
Posted by Mike Florio on January 4, 2010 1:20 PM ET
During the second half of Sunday night's game between the Bengals and the Jets, the NFL announced the lineup for wild-card weekend.

For the following weekend, there's far less suspense; the league already has announced the dates and times for the division-round matchups.

The action begins on Saturday, January 16, with the Saints hosting the Cardinals, Packers, or Eagles in a game that starts at 4:30 p.m. ET on FOX. Then, the Colts will host the Bengals, Jets, or Ravens at 8:15 p.m. ET on CBS.

The next day, the Vikings will be visited by the Cowboys, Cardinals, or Packers at 1:00 p.m. ET on FOX.

The weekend concludes with the Patriots, Bengals, or Jets going to San Diego.

Based on the FOX/CBS rotation for the conference title games, the AFC Championship will start the following Sunday in the middle of the afternoon, and the NFC Championship will be played in prime time.

The AFC championship doesn't get the prme time spot? If we're fortunate enough to have a Colts/Pats or Colts/Bolts AFC championship game they think whatever matchup the NFC can barf onto us will be better than that?

The alternate schedule is set every year

Last year AFC Title Game was primetime and the NFC Title Game was late afternoon

The year before that the AFC Title Game was afternoon and the NFC Title game was in primetime.

Packers-Vikings in the NFC championship game would without a doubt get more publicity than any matchup the AFC could produce, not saying it would be a better game, but ESPN would eat that matchup up.

    More than Colts Pats?
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

I would say yes, but that combination is probably ESPN's dream.
