Default What do you miss most?

from the years when the Pacers were really good.

Several things I really miss, but what I miss most of all --

I was thinking about this earlier today. How long has it been since the Pacers played a big game? I guess that is what I miss most. No game anymore is a big game and hasn't been since the '05. And no a game against the Lakers right now is not a big game. Playing an elite team might sem important, but for it to be a truly big game it has to be a big game for both teams. Afterall, the Lakers will probably coast for 3 or three and a half quarters and still win by 8 points. Lakers vs Celtics or Lakers vs Cavs is a big game.

Pacers used to play those type of games against the Knicks, against the Bulls, but that was a long time ago.

Well wins of course, but I miss the buzz around the team. I miss the national coverage, and not having games on ABC, ESPN, TNT, etc. Buzz around town, or even friends and family talking about the team, players, or previous and upcoming games.

That's one thing that brought me to the Digest was that I could discuss the Pacers with others, b/c when you're losing, the average fair weather fans don't care.

I miss the coverage and interest in the team

    I miss the arena full.

I miss Jamaal Tinsleys' rookie season. I thought he was something.

I miss when the fans weren't ashamed of them.
"I keep wondering the same thing. Last week they had the 4th worst record in the league, had an 11.9 percent chance of winning the lottery and were in line to land a franchise type player like Derrick Favors or DeMarcus Cousins. This week? They have a 1.7 percent chance of winning the lottery, have the 8th worst record and are in line to draft Cole Aldrich or Greg Monroe. Way to go Jim O'Brien. Rest Danny Granger the rest of the season (if it isn't too late) and give Josh McRoberts lots of minutes. That ought to do it." - Chad Ford on winning meaningless games

Way to go Jim, you may have just put our franchise back another 4+ years.

    Not being pushed around.

Not looking at every single front line and worrying about how bad we are going to be abused on the inside.

    Defense that led to offense.

A point guard who was an absolute wizard with the ball.

Before that a point guard who wasn't as talented but played with the heart of a lion.

Toughness, not just from the powerforward position.

    Reggie's big moments

    I miss :

    Being relevant in the NBA
    The Davis duo
    Reggie
    MSA
    The Shimmy
    Hicks vs Knicks
    Rivalry with Pistons
Team of real athletic basketball players
The swagger we had under Larry Brown and Bird coaching
Mentioning this phrase before a game "Gee the Pacers might win tonight"
Sittin on top of the world!

I miss the atmosphere at MSA the most. Conseco is nice, but MSA was nuts.

I miss the competiteness of the games...the hunt for the home court advantage in playoffs, the big games, the all or nothing last second efforts by Uncle Reggie, the ability to trash talk my friends and actually have the Pacers back me up by winning...

nowadays we're just walking in circles going nowhere....*sigh*

A coach, a fanbase, basketball players (not a bunch of bums), our old jerseys, and of course the rivalries.

I miss the big games, that's a good one. I hadn't thought about those in a long while, but now that I am I'm with you, UB, I really miss big games. I miss big games that were on TNT, ESPN, or ABC that meant something to people outside of central Indiana. I miss having players on our team that are part of the national discussion of the NBA as a league.

Staying on that tangent, I miss the playoffs for the same reason.

I miss finishes that had me noticing my heart beating in my chest.

I miss the pride associated with my team being good.

I miss the joy of having my team be one of the few that play (sometimes very) good basketball the majority of the time. That could be offensively, defensively, or both.

i've been a fan since 1990. the very first game i paid any attention to was game 5 of round one against the celtics when larry left the court and chuck shot the three from 40 feet away.

this is too painful to watch.

The same feelings I have now with the Colts...

The feeling that the team could win any game.
The feeling that the team could come back after a slow start.
The feeling that the team could blowout anyone even the best teams.
The feeling that the best player could take over at any point.
The feeling that the players could win a game at the end no matter what.

I miss the 90's. The team that rose from nothing to perennial contenders. Hopefully this year will start a better decade.

I miss the Knicks rivalry. We've not had a rivalry in years now. I barely even care anymore who wins.

I miss the way we operated on offense and the maturity of the 90's team. At times, watching Mark Jackson was like watching a surgeon. Watching TJ is like watching a miniature version of a cross between Jamaal Tinsley and Travis Best...picking up only the worst qualities of those two players.

I miss a SG that could shoot. Reggie Miller could always get an open look. Of course, that required an offensive scheme...which we no longer have either.

I miss having a real PG. A leader at that position. Tinsley had some interesting talent...but Mark Jackson was a leader and far better PG.

I miss the size and the length. It was nice having the tallest good player in the league and a 6'11" SF...to go with a shot blocking, tough guy at PF. ...and I miss having two Davis's. We could use one right now.

I miss Jalen Rose (of course)... though he had the ugliest game of all time, he did have a winning attitude. My theory is if we had kept him at small forward, not made the trade, bought Rick back, we may have been back in contention.

    Also

I miss a team playing hard no matter what. I remember the weeks after the brawl, we had a team of NOBODYS(Tinsley, Fred Jones, Foster, etc) playing their hearts out. We didnt always win, but you were proud to root for a team like that.

    I miss Jalen, too.

I miss the most was this state being proud of this team.

I miss having a hard time getting a ticket to a game.

I miss the fact that each game was just about as important as the next, with the intensity of a playoff game.

    I miss Bowser...

I miss all the hype that surrounded Conseco Fieldhouse during the first two years. That place seems like a barren desert where basketball isn't fun to watch. More like where the next Metallica concert is being held.

I miss "Pacers Crazy". It still isn't a tip-off without that song.

    I miss stuff like this:
