Default O'Brien remains unhappy with his lineup

    http://http://www.indystar.com/artic...ith-his-lineup

MIAMI -- Indiana Pacers coach Jim O'Brien is going to run out of options with his starting lineup with all the tinkering he's doing.

Until he reaches that point, though, O'Brien plans to continue to try to find the right mix of players.

He is considering shaking up the lineup again after his starters were thoroughly outplayed for the second straight game in their 114-80 loss to the Miami Heat.

"I don't know if we have enough speed in our starting lineup," O'Brien said. "Clearly we are not getting it done. The last couple of games, we have not scored well. We did a good job with that unit to start out the previous three games, but right now it's not working. We need to continue to re-evaluate everything."

The Pacers' starters have been outscored 160-61 in the past two games. The second unit made the game respectable in the second quarter each of the past two nights.

"We can't be playing the way we've been playing in the first unit," starting point guard Earl Watson said. "We have to come out and we have to have a style of play. We have to have a personality. We have to have characteristics. We have to set the tone.

"The second unit played great, but no matter what, we have to get both units to play at the same time at a high level in order for us to compete and win."

Yet another line-up change. 29 games in and we have no identity. Wow.

He is right, we do need new starters, the problem is though these isn't anyone on the team who will do much better.

Are Tremaine Folkes, Marcus Haislip and Michael Curry available?

I'd like to see Hansbrough start and see if that makes any difference. Break up Murphy and Roy. It's hard to figure out because I don't think you want Murphy and Dunleavy on the floor together, historically. And I don't think you want Murphy and Hibbert on the floor together. I'm saying put Murphy at Center, he actually does every bit as well against Centers as he does Power Fowards, probably better actually.

I also want to see AJ in the rotation. Again I ask, what have we seen that we DON'T like about AJ. I mean he's played well, I think, every time he's played, so far this year.

Anyway, I would like for them to move Hansbrough into the starting line up, he's a difference maker from just a pure energy perspective.

Hibberts out of the lineup... It's NOT going to be Troy.
"I keep wondering the same thing. Last week they had the 4th worst record in the league, had an 11.9 percent chance of winning the lottery and were in line to land a franchise type player like Derrick Favors or DeMarcus Cousins. This week? They have a 1.7 percent chance of winning the lottery, have the 8th worst record and are in line to draft Cole Aldrich or Greg Monroe. Way to go Jim O'Brien. Rest Danny Granger the rest of the season (if it isn't too late) and give Josh McRoberts lots of minutes. That ought to do it." - Chad Ford on winning meaningless games

Way to go Jim, you may have just put our franchise back another 4+ years.

Agreed, I'd say at this point, Troy is the only guarantee to start. Maybe, Dunleavy, but he really has played about as bad as you can, recently.

Maybe a front court of D Jones and Earl Watson works if you had Granger, who knows. I really don't see any positive pairings available at this point. I'd still like to see Hansbrough with basically anybody and then Solo/Hibbert which I don't think we've seen all year.

I'm with Uncle Buck on this, that Foster Hansbrough have really been the only really really nice pairing in the frontcourt all year.

    Interesting comments from Earl:

"We can't be playing the way we've been playing in the first unit," starting point guard Earl Watson said. "We have to come out and we have to have a style of play. We have to have a personality. We have to have characteristics. We have to set the tone.

How is any unit supposed to acquire those things when it has new members every few games? Shouldn't the head coach be spearheading the "style of play" plan? Would love to be a fly on the wall in our practices so I could know once and for all how much of this is on the players and how much the coaches.

Michael Pina, Red94: "There are so many different ways the Pacers can beat you. They have an All-Star scoring threat, imposing figures on the front line, steady point guard play, and most importantly, a defense that'll choke the life out of just about every offense that crosses its path."

    hey obie, heres an idea!
    Price
    Head
Rush (Granger when he gets back)
    Hansbrough
    Hibbert

how about developing our youth a little bit instead of having our vet starters continue to fail miserably?

Wow. 61 points out of our starters in 2 games. Embarrassing.

I want a starting lineup (and an ending lineup) of players who will compete and be effective at defending, regardles if they're the new guys or the vets... regardless if they make multi-millions or multi-thousands. Surely in the back of his mind he knows who works best together and who is most effective together.

Win or lose, I want to see competative games.

If you look at the last 2 games Troy Murphy has scored 35 points the remaining 4 starters Dunleavy (5) , Hibbert (13) Jones (4) and Watson (4) have combined for 26 total.
