The coach won't get fired to get a new coach and turn things around (immediately), he'd get fired to appease the fans if they start tuning out in droves.

O'Brien's expiration date passed quite some time ago. IMHO, the only reason he's still here is he gives us the ability to tank without actually tanking. OTOH, if fans give up hope in the coach and start questioning players (unfairly), and follow that with major declining ticket sales and apathy then O'Brien is finished sooner rather than later. The team won't be able to afford to take these losses, even if the scoreboard losses mean a higher draft pick. TPTB will need fans to have SOME faith in the existing players and not turn on them.

Right now, O'Brien's 'coaching' is causing fans to lose too much faith and respect with existing players. That can't happen. Not to this degree.

    IMHO....
Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.

    I told y'all the Rush/Bayless trade was a mistake.

I told y'all we would lose Jarret Jack and be a much worse team for it.

I told y'all I feared JOB was losing the team back when we were 5-4.

I saw this coming. And this is why I'm a pessimist.
Well, the Bayless/Rush trade got us Jack in the 1st place.

If anything, we'll probably wait until the offseason with a decision if O'Brien will stay or not. An interim for the rest of the season won't do us much more than O'Brien would.

Jarrett Jack should be traded back.

How about we keep Jim but make him never play Murphy Hibbert and Dunleavy together at the same time.
In fact how about they make him never play Murphy ever again until he is traded, this team would be win many more games. Problem solved

Yes they have but I have no faith that Bird will do anything about it. He doesn't like to make in-season changes especially Coach wise.

To me, the meaning of "wheels fallen off" is that everything is going wrong. Changing O'Brien now would have exactly the same benefit as sitting a new driver in the cockpit of a wrecked racecar.

Those two statements are mutually exclusive.
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

"But, first, let us now praise famous moments, because something happened Tuesday night in Indianapolis that you can watch a lifetime’s worth of professional basketball and never see again. There was a brief, and very decisive, and altogether unprecedented, outburst of genuine officiating, and it was directed at the best player in the world, and that, my dear young person, simply is not done."

I don't think I have ever seen a Pacer team play the way we did against the Heat last night. It seems like our players willfully lost that game.

The game before against Atlanta, we had lots of problems, but it didn't feel the same. We never actually threatened Atlanta, but it wasn't totally disgusting, only 80% or so.

Last night we reached a new low, and it felt as if Jim fiddled while Rome burned. But, in his defense, I don't think anything he would have done last night would have made any difference. It felt to me like a game that was a statement game by the players to management that change of the coaching staff is required, and if it doesn't come that they are willing to do whatever it takes to make that change come. I have never felt that way about a Pacer team before.

Well, if he said early on that we would only rent Jack for a year, and so that part of the trade was not really at all helpful, then it wouldn't be mutually exclusive.

Well, here is my take on what happened in the Heat game.

When the Colts put in Painter, it was such a disaster of a bad move that it not only stopped the Colts in their tracks, it even stopped the Pacers in their tracks.
