    Default Dallas

    DAL gets:

    Troy Murphy 2 yr, $23.0M
    Travis Deiner 1 yr, $1.7M
    Luther Head 1 yr, $0.83M

    IND gets:

    Erick Dampier 1 yr, $12.12M
    Shawne Williams 1 yr, $2.4M
    Rodrigue Beaubois 4 yr, $5.7M

This deal would accomplish a couple of things. We reduce next year's payroll by a significant $12M, by cutting Dampier with his fully non-guaranteed 2010-2011 year. We take on an extra $2M which will save Dallas about $4M total. We get Beaubois who is a highly touted PG prospect. We would immediately cut Williams and they would probably cut Deiner. We would also probably cut Dampier as well, so that he could catch on with a contender [cough, Dallas, cough]. This would leave us with 13 players, which would be fine. They would be strong on their second unit with Barea, Terry, Carroll/Thomas, Murphy, Humphries/Dampier that could absolutely light it up offensively.

    Dallas's rotation:

    PG - Kidd, Barea, Head
    SG - Howard, Terry, Ross
    SF - Marion, Carroll, Thomas
    PF - Nowitzki, Murphy
    C - Gooden, Dampier, Humphries

    Isnt Dampier coming to us??
"So, which one of you guys is going to come in second?" - Larry Bird before the 3 point contest. He won.

Sorry... the original post didn't include the part in brackets because I used the pointed things, which is some computer code. These things I am not versed in. But the idea is that we buyout Dampier and he goes back to Dallas eventually. We have no need for him. The old loophole if you will.

Would Bird ever let Shawne come back?

Shawnes not on Dallas anymore. But yeah, I'd do that. It'd be good to not go over the LT.
"I keep wondering the same thing. Last week they had the 4th worst record in the league, had an 11.9 percent chance of winning the lottery and were in line to land a franchise type player like Derrick Favors or DeMarcus Cousins. This week? They have a 1.7 percent chance of winning the lottery, have the 8th worst record and are in line to draft Cole Aldrich or Greg Monroe. Way to go Jim O'Brien. Rest Danny Granger the rest of the season (if it isn't too late) and give Josh McRoberts lots of minutes. That ought to do it." - Chad Ford on winning meaningless games

Way to go Jim, you may have just put our franchise back another 4+ years.

The trade does nothing for Dallas except leave them with a big hole at center plus they lose a promising young PG who may crack their rotation next year. Not one of the proposed Pacer players would be of any use to the Mavs. Actually Shawne is still on the Mavs roster as his salary is good trade filler. The kid does have physical talent but blew his chance in Dallas.

Dallas has Drew Gooden and Kris Humphries to man the Center position until they would re-sign Dampier. Also, Shawne Williams would not be welcome back to the Pacers. He too would get cut.

As for Beaubois, they have JJ Barea who has been solid for them as a backup. I don't know if the upside of Beaubois is worth waiting for... for a team who is looking at competing now... and not in three or four years.

If anything, they wouldn't do this deal because Murphy's skill set doesn't complement Dirk enough. Not because of money. They can trade Dampier to anybody and they probably will, but they will make sure they get a complementary player for their team.
