    Default Visiting Indy Jan 16th..help

My buddy and I have never attended an NBA game and will be seeing our first on the 16th when the Pacers take on the Hornets. So help me out, we're coming from St. Louis, and going to be spending the night. What is there to do post game? Anything around Conseco fieldhouse that is worth checking out. Decent places to eat, good bars/clubs....strip clubs? Thanks, I'll hang up and listen.

Thanks guys, where does the average pacer fan go to party before/after the game, within walking distance of the arena? Staying at the Ramada on E. Thompson st, just curious what there is to do, and trying to plan for driving/taxi's and such.

Jan 16th is a Saturday Night. Downtown has everything you could want hole in the wall, clubs with party music, and sports bars.

With your ticket stub you can get into Brad's Brass Flamingo Showclub for free. That is a gentlemans club.

The bar I attend b 4 games (when I want a beer) is THE PUB it is on Pennslyvania AVE and is within walking distance. Indy also has a Scotty's Brewhouse on Pennsylvania Ave that is a little farther down the road.

Beers Run $7 Dollars @ the game

I reccomend you get a deep fried pork tenderloin sandwhich in Indy.

Personally, I think you need to hit up Howl at the Moon. It's a piano bar with a great atmosphere.

Indianapolis is in the Bible Belt and doesn't have any strip clubs. But there are numerous restaurants within a couple of blocks of Conseco Fieldhouse. I think some of them serve liquor.
And I won't be here to see the day
It all dries up and blows away
I'd hang around just to see
But they never had much use for me

Oh, Indianapolis certainly does have strip clubs. I haven't even gone to one and I know that much.

Perhaps you mean down town? I'm considering the wider Indy area.

Ahh, humor. With the dismal Pacer season there's not been much call for that around here...

I blame myself. I didn't even read Putnam's last sentence before I went to respond.

Yeah, though you might say wishful thinking rather than kidding.

And there is even one downtown: The Red Garter on South Illinois.

In my news reporter days, I had occasion to stand outside those places whenever there was a vice raid or an arrest. So I've actually got a fair idea of Indy's seamy side.

Although it is much milder now than it was in the 80s. There was a slutty bar at Market and Illinois. There was a gay bath about six blocks north of the Statehouse. And there was an I-don't-know-what kind of an alternative place on south Delaware that even the police didn't know about until it caught fire in 1983.

    Now there's just 501.

Scotty's Brew Pub is just north of Conseco by one block, solid choice for pre-post game food and beer. There are a few other smaller bars in the area as well, mostly toward Meridian (west) of Conseco.

Illinois is the core of the restuaraunts.

If you are willing to cab for $5 or drive you could zip up a few blocks to Rathskeller or some of the other Mass Ave pubs. Chattam Tap is a solid choice. Or if you want to drink some Scotch and want variety then McNivens on Mass Ave is a great option. A person, not me per se, could get pretty well lit up bar crawling just on Mass Ave and it's not even that dense with bars.

If you grab a downtown hotel and it's winter then Mass is a cab option and walking keeps you to Illinois and Meridian. There's also a Jillians on Penn I think right over from Conseco. You'd be hard pressed to not get your drink on.

Red Garter is just south of South St on Illinois, down by the White Castle and Lucas Oil, also walking distance from downtown hotels.

It's a very tourist friendly city. You can also park on the meters for free after 6 or all day weekends, so don't pay to park unless you get desperate. The downtown mall has several lots that are really cheap, though if you get a hotel you will probably just park there.

There are plenty of gay clubs in the area, Mass Ave places like Metro and frankly Scholars Inn unnofficially. If you are into leather or "bears" there's the 501 on Michigan and College.
