Granger Already Thinking About Rushing Back From Injury

Pacers forward Danny Granger is doing his best to remain positive despite suffering a torn right plantar fascia.

He'll miss at least a month with the injury.

"It's not so much frustration, just kind of disappointed, obviously with the way the season's going and the situation with my heel," Granger said. "But it happens and I'll get through it."

Granger was averaging 24.4 points and 6.1 rebounds prior to the injury.
"I'm not going to lie to you," he said of rushing back. "It will be very difficult, especially since I don't know where we'll be standings-wise in the East when it's time for me to come back. I'm going to try and get back as soon as possible and hopefully we'll still be in playoff contention."

Heading into Friday night's action the Pacers were 6-13, 2 1/2 games behind the Bobcats for the Eastern Conference's eighth seed.

Cynic that I've become with this..uh.."team." I'm thinking Danny is getting advice straight from OB, as in, "I need all the vets I can get out there. When can you return?"
I don't get it. The guy will be gone for 4-6 weeks and this team is fast watching its season circle the drain after a decent summer league and preseason?
An opportunity for others to step up and this is the story?

So what do you want to hear from Granger? "I need to take lots of time to make sure I'm fully healed. Even if the team is doing badly, my health is the most important thing. I'm sure every Pacer fan will understand that I want to be on the court but they need to get used to me in a suit."

Yeah, like no one would comment about how soft Granger is after that kind of response.

Torn plantar fascia, that's just a bruise after all.

That "concussion = headache" is becoming one of a PD's best tropes. Does anyone remember who said it?

But, yeah, the best thing Granger can do is say he'll get back as soon as he can. Lucky for him that he won't be there these coming weeks while the wheels continue falling off.
And I won't be here to see the day
It all dries up and blows away
I'd hang around just to see
But they never had much use for me

Well..."as soon as possible" is not what I call rushing back! He wants to help the team, that's obvious, 'cause he thinks they can still make the playoffs. Nothing wrong with that...However, I'd be concerned if Granger comes back and O'Brien says again something like "if necessary, he'll stay on the court, even if the doctors limited his minutes" (like he said about Dunleavy).
    Thank you Jeff.

........and it is nice to read about a player wanting to come back without using the word "dominate".

Didn't Danny Granger learn anything watching Jermaine O'Neal come back time and time again too early? JO tried to play thru injuries so much he'd end up hurting another part of his body in doing so he hurt himself long term and the team.

Pacer brass needs to realize they destroyed JO long term for attempted short term results, now with Granger they are repeating the same mistakes- long term , big money does not equate to the ability to heal quicker than normal. Let Danny get healthy , it not like he's a 35 year old vet on his last legs he has a bright future if he's pressured as JO was.

Notwithstanding that I don't know what long-term implications a torn plantar fascia has, let's not get into the mistake of thinking all injuries have the same long term consequences. There is a certain amount of coming back while still in pain but not at risk that is part of the game.

Yep! A NBA player who has never played with pain would be as rare as a short Peck post. Now say that three times.

There is a big difference between playing hurt and playing with an injury.

I successfully said this out loud 3 times in the office, and got several disturbed looks.

No difference. If you are playing hurt you have some sort of injury and therefore you are playing with an injury. The difference is will playing with this injury cause more damage or is it just painful to play with said injury.
