Default Granger taken off team's charter plane on wheelchair

    Mike Wells tweeted this earlier:

Wells222 Granger was taken off the teamís charter plane in a wheelchair because his foot was in too much pain Sunday.
Also, it looks like we are bracing to be without him for awhile.

Wells222 No MRI results on Granger (bruised heel) until 2morrow but O'Brien bracing to be without him for awhile.
A bad season just got worse.

    Ugh.

Well - the best thing I can say about this is that it sounds like he'll get some time to rest the heel and the knee.

I actually think it's best he not play. He's not been right anyway. Let's see what this group can do without him around. It may be an epiphany when you can't rely on him. Also, it should allow other players to assume more responsibility. That let's us find out more about other guys.

I'm for shutting him down until he's all the way better, honestly.

I'd like to see BRush get out of this funk as part of this or at the very least give Head a chance to play more.

One more excuse we will now be fed as to why there will be no changes in the coaching staff or players.

A very legitimate excuse, but still an excuse.

I'd still take his post defense over Troy's.

    Second line.

I'm not sure how much longer they can lean on the injury crutch. At some point, whether it's legitimate or not, people tire of it. Plus I think it's abundantly clear that we will never be fully healthy.

Crap, I wasn't even thinking of it from that angle.

Jim O'Brien just got his excuse for another failed year.

I get it, but I'm not too concerned about any of this. JOb has signed his last contract. I have no doubt about it. Mark it down. Someone else will soon be the Pacer coach.

As for the players, I don't think anything good will happen this year anyway because certain players with large contracts are still going to be on the court for 30 minutes a game.

Basically, I've waited for years now. I can wait a couple more...and maybe even get a couple top 10 picks for the rebuild. Right now we would pick at #6...and this is before we lose Granger for almost certainly the rest of the calendar year. If Dunleavy reaggravates anything...whew.

I'll take this bet. Jim will easily get another head coaching job, and if he does well enough with this group maybe an extension again.

Are you saying that Obie will get another NBA head coaching job after he gets axed (whenever that may be) here? Cause I'll take that bet all day. You get three NBA head coaching gigs in the NBA and do a large amount of nothing, and you aren't likely to get a fourth.

Well, at least now either the rest of the team steps up (doubtful), or this time next year we'll have a healthy Danny, a high draft pick, and a ridiculous amount of expiring contracts waiting to be traded or come off the books in the form of Murphy/Dun/TJ.

Yep, and it should be the last year of Jim O'Brien.

I have obviously given up on having any success this season in the form of wins-losses, so I agree with the general sentiment that we need to get Granger all the rest in the world so that he is 100% ready to go next year. Like you said about next year; we'll have a healthy Granger, a higher than expected draft pick, another year under the belts of Rush and Hibbert (hopefully they can still make plenty of progress this year), Tyler with his rookie year behind him, a coach who will thankfully be in the last year of his contract, and most importantly, a boatload of expiring money in Dun/TJ/Troy. That's not the worst position in the world to be in. It will certainly be the best one that we have been in in many, many, many years.

For me, it's all about getting to the start of the 2011-2012 season. Knowing that better days are down the road is what gives me hope as a fan. We'll be able to fairly judge Bird as a GM by how he plays his cards from now to then.

First off, we're talking (unofficially) about a bruised heel, not anything broken. The MRI will certainly provided details and the medical/training staff can go from there. Still, I doubt Granger will be on the sidelines for very long...a month tops unless there's some serious ligament damage.

Second, injuries to one player usually open up opportunities for another. So, here's hoping JOB gives Luther a chance to show what he can do. He's the only Wing player left. He can't do any worse.

And Tinsley and Foster. That is another 12 million off the books and finally the end of the brawl era. Pacers drop almost 50 million off the books after next year.

If things are really desperate fill the team with D-leaguers.

I think this might be a blessing in disguise.

To start, Granger has been playing hurt as it is, which hasn't been good for him. Not to mention we aren't winning anyway. Most importantly though, this really gives Brandon Rush a reason to step up, which he has shown he can do in the past when really needed. Like Speed said, this could get him out of his funk.

Also, this really should help us draft pick wise, and as a rebuilding team, we need a good draft pick - not another decent one.

Frankly this barely hurts. Dun has returned, is actually not that bad as a help defender (and in the past has actually had a positive statistical impact on the defense), and Dun is far less likely to bomb 12 deep threes with 17 seconds on the shot clock still.

Danny is the man, he is a brilliant offensive player when he's not simply settling for jumpers. He does have the range to validate a fair number of 3PA too. But he's got some defensive issues and certainly seems to have struggled with the foot injury all season.

My only worry is that Dun seems weak from the outside still and I worry about his full recovery. Remember that we weren't expecting him back this soon originally, and several of us have even wondered if he might not be permanently done. So far it doesn't look that way, so I'm hopeful.

The bigger problem is that Danny also wasn't the problem, so even if Dun neutralizes his loss it doesn't actually fix the team's issues.

The Pacers have lost 9 in a row with Danny in the starting lineup and are undefeated without him this year.

Crap this is bad for Dunleavy.. this gives O'Brien a reason to overplay him. I sure hope this doesn't turn out making Dunleavy get hurt.

I agree with Speed. I do not love it when a player gets injured, but this is by far a blessing in disguise. It's nature telling Danny that he needs a break.
