I've seen a number of posts stating that T.J. isn't a real point guard, or that he is the reason are offense is so bad. This criticism is coming from the same people who fully understand that O'brien is essentially not running an offense. No true point guard could flourish in this non-system.
People will surely point to instances when T.J. jumps in the air and throws the ball to no one. I agree that these plays look bad. However, what is happening is that he drives into the lane, draws defenders, and looks to distribute the ball. Unfortunately, no one on our offense is doing anything. Thus, he has no where to go with the ball. He is averaging less than 2 turnovers a game, by the way.
The only kind of point guard that would fit this team would be an absolute chucker. Some of you are clamoring for Andre Miller. You guys would turn on him faster than you can say empty possession. I'm sure he would be none to happy to be here either.
Don't forget that Ford took his team to the playoffs the three years prior to coming to Indiana. At 23, he was averaging 14 and 8. Granted he was on a better team, he was still a very good point guard.
The bottom line is that this is a mediocre team with a terrible coach.
