You've dealt with losing throughout your career. How does it feel to be back in a winning atmosphere on a team competing for a championship?

We're all playing for a championship. We all want to win this year and that's what we're focusing on. When I was in Dallas, we had some rough stretches and Indiana was the same way. It was awful, I hate losing. It feels really good to be in a winning atmosphere.
Marquis, even though you have the worst 3pt shot in the history of the modern world. I miss all the intangibles you brought

I love players that HATE losing!!

Shawn Marion is a recent example. Dude was perfectly happy to go to a crappy Miami team and leave behind a better one that had Steve Nash dishing him the rock.

To me, that does not suggest apathy towards losing.

In fact, it could suggest any number of things. Maybe he had irreconcilable differences with other players/management in Phoenix? Maybe Miami was the only possible destination to escape to? Maybe he valued whatever it was that caused such great 'discomfort' more than losing...but that does not suggest to me that he does not care about losing.

You haven't seen TJ take a 3pt shot have you?

In a 3pt shooting contest between Marquis and Ford.....I'd take Marquis anyday.

    How soon they forget.

    2008-2009

    TJ Ford 3p% .337
    Marquis Daniels 3p% .200

If Marquis is on my team - and I liked him on the floor - I don't want him shooting outside of 15-18 feet.

Joe Johnson is a perfect example of a guy willing to go from a winning team in Phoenix, to a constant loser in Atlanta (he's obviously helped change that now) but there is a precedent of those willing to take stats and losing over winning.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

That does not mean he is apathetic towards losing.

Some guys go from a winning team to a losing team thinking that they will be "the man", and thus will end up turning that team around. All the while, hoping that their former team will fall apart without their greatness.

He was traded, its not like he had a choice. What was he suppose to do, refuse to play?

Just because a guy goes from a winning team, to a losing team, does not mean they don't mind losing. Some competitive guys just like to start from the bottom and work their way up. Reggie passed up a chance to sign with the Lakers when they got Payton and Malone to go with Kobe and Shaq, does this mean he enjoys losing? No, it just means he wanted to win with what he accomplished.

Examples of people who care more about stats than winning: Jamaal Tinsley, TJ Ford, Zach Randolph, ect. You can tell when a player doesn't care about the team or winning, its usually pretty obvious.

Doesn't mean he likes losing. Scot Pollard was very competitive.

Sign-and-trade, actually. JJ agreed on a deal with Atlanta then changed it to an S&T.

So yeah, he had a choice.

Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

i can think of a perfect example of what you speak of. i remember when the kings faced the lakers in like during the lakers 1st championship during shaq/kobe 2000. the kings were getting whupped pretty badly and you see nick anderson and some other guy. nick anderson is looking out on the court from the bench with this guy and they are point out there laughing and smiling about the whole thing. when he was asked about it and whether the knigs can come back in the series, he just laughed and walked off.
no, i really don't think losing bothered him at all.
