    Default The Fire JOB Thread...again

I created this thread earlier this season, but it appears to have been deleted. I wanted to bump it back up to take a little state of the union and see how things have changed from where they were, but that's ok, we can just start over.

How many of you want to see the team take a new direction?

Edit: I even gave Unclebuck his own poll choice.

Why is it that you disappeared until Pacers got blew out? How many of these threads have you started about JOB and Indiana has no chemistry? Where were you on the winning streak? Or when our young players were doing great?

It doesn't matter how much people seem to dislike him, he's under contract for two more years. He's not going anywhere.
"I keep wondering the same thing. Last week they had the 4th worst record in the league, had an 11.9 percent chance of winning the lottery and were in line to land a franchise type player like Derrick Favors or DeMarcus Cousins. This week? They have a 1.7 percent chance of winning the lottery, have the 8th worst record and are in line to draft Cole Aldrich or Greg Monroe. Way to go Jim O'Brien. Rest Danny Granger the rest of the season (if it isn't too late) and give Josh McRoberts lots of minutes. That ought to do it." - Chad Ford on winning meaningless games

Way to go Jim, you may have just put our franchise back another 4+ years.

In his defense (which I can't believe I am doing) the board was down during our winning streak.

But yeah, enough with these threads. Everyone already knows how each other feels about the coach one way or another. This is getting old really quickly.

Only for two or three games.

Actually the last three or four. Don't get me wrong, I would've loved to hear everyone during the streak. But this is just monotonous. It feels like a jack in the box that keeps getting played with over and over and over. Same result, a ton of upset people each time.

I'm still trying to figure out what this "new direction" is that some are talking about. I don't see anythong else out there that could make this team better short of trading players.

The board was shut down, there wasn't anywhere to be.

Thank you. I didn't want to make a new thread, but the old one was nowhere to be found.

The main reason for the creation of this thread was the poll anyway.

What could make this team better:

    1. An offense

    2. Defense

    You get neither with JOB.

To be fair, even if people were convinced by the win streak, the detour away from the lineups that prompted the streak could make that very streak work against the coach.

I just get frustrated with the goal of being mediocre. I would rather be declared "rebuilding". After all of the things that have happened to our franchise, we need a few years to build back up. I know the fear is losing fans in the seats if the team is bad, but I would rather root for the team I know is getting better than a team that is just trying to keep butts in the seats. We just don't have the players to be a championship team. If we aren't trying to win a championship, then what are we doing? I'm willing to give it time, but I don't see time improving our direction.

The biggest problem I have with JOB is the way he is handling our young players. They need to play through mistakes, not be punished. We need a coach that is a good teacher.

I think the problem is not with JOB, but higher up in TPTB.

I'm excited for our future. There is plenty of time to right the ship. Hopefully this is only the plan until we get out of cap hell.

JOB is an excellent special teams coach.

if they did fire O'Brien, Pacers digest would be a better place. It is very similar to what was happening here during Rick's last 18 months as coach.

And now 3/4 of the board would love to have Rick back.

3 or 4 years from now 75% of the board will want whoever the current coach is to be fired. and the current coach will not be O'Brien

    Yep.

And wasn't it not too long ago that people were talking about how much more pleasurable this current team was to watch than than the Carlisle coached teams that actually won more. What happened to that?

Everyone last year was complaining about how JOB wasn't playing Rush enough because he needed to be developed. Well now he's playing more and fans are complaining that he shouldn't be playing more than Jones. Now they want him benched for what quite frankly has been poor play this year, but the development argument they were rallying for last year seems to have gone out the window.

Fickleness at its finest. NBA fans are the most fickle ones about their coaches. The NBA is a players' league. Mike D'Antoni's time in Phoenix and now NY proves it.

I mean, how much of a difference is Eddie Jordan (ex Kings and ex Wiz coach) making for the 76ers? How big a difference is Flip Saunders (ex Wolves and ex Pistons coach) making for the Wiz? Those two teams look awfully similar to what they were last year. How big a difference is Vinnie Del Negro making for the Bulls compared to Skiles, who most fans soured on? Now they're just souring on the next guy.

UB really should pull up more of those posts from the Carlisle days. Fans now seem to be yearning for the same coach whose style was deemed unwatchable his last couple years in town.

I wanted Rick gone not because of his ability to coach, but the players willingness to follow. If Rick had this crew they would have been in the playoffs 1 out of the last 3 seasons. Not much better by better nonetheless.

The next coach we get is no guarantee of an improvement.

Honestly my biggest issue with JOB is that I believe he mismanages his lineup which in turn costs the team games.

I voted no. Not because I'm in love with Job, but because I'm astute enough to learn that our players are the problem. This roster will look entirely different in three years. Also, in three years we replace Job with another coach.

Besides, what high profile coach would come here? I challenge any of you to name a good replacement.

I would have been leaning Yes, but when Troy returned and got significant minutes...it told me that JOb is not truly committed to defense....something that clearly, clearly, clearly, clearly...did I say clearly...looked better without Troy on the floor. I don't care if this team was playing the Indiana Hoosiers, that was good defense.

Mark Jackson would be my choice. Oh, and JOb will be gone once his extension is up. He's signed his last contract with the Pacers IMO.
