I think the Thunder are this year's Blazers. Young, exciting team that appears to have greatness in its future but will be terribly disappointing in the present. I fully expect a Lakers sweep or 4-1 series. I might even bet money on it.

being a slight betting man, I'd think there are some safer bets to bet on and the odds you'd get from the Lakers would be smaller then the risk..

The Suns- Blazers series to me looks more of a clean sweep, No Roy is bad news...

I think the Lakers are slightly favourites - they may even sweep. I guess, it only takes 4 close wins. But I don't believe it's a similar situation.

Portland lost to Houston because they had a one dimensional offence (Brandon Roy/LMA clearouts or 2-man game + shooters with a lack of other go-to scorers, no transition game) and were matched up against the best defensive team in the West and the best wing defender in the NBA, Battier (that season). They were able to contain everyone on that roster outside of Brandon Roy - a lot thanks to their ability to switch on lot of picks - and turned Portland into a below average ofensive team. Portland were also a mediocre defensive team so they didn't have much to fall back on once their offence began to fail.

In comparison, Oklahoma is a very good defensive team + has three matchup advantages that cause the Lakers a huge amount of problems on the other end of the floor.

I think that Oklahoma and Portland are two very different situations.

I don't think the Thunder are or will be disappointing in the present. They've surpassed my expectations of them by already making the playoffs, something I thought they wouldn't do for another two years. Even if they get swept and blown out by the Lakers, it wouldn't be a disappointment in my book because of how talented the Lakers are and the fact that they're the defending champions. They're a young and inexperienced team and they've done well under the circumstances. With the playoff experience they'll get this year and the growth of guys like Durant, Westbrook, and Green, they'll get even better.

No where to put this, but I saw this Hollinger's chat.

    Jared

Is Mike Woodson gone if the Hawks lose?

    John Hollinger

    (12:41 PM)

I think that partly depends on whether his buddy Larry Brown is the new GM in Philly. If that happens I'd expect Woodson to jump with him. If not, I think there's a decent chance he's back even if the Hawks lose tomorrow.

I did not know this was a possibility, if I was Bird I would have Larry Brown's number on speed dial the moment he's announced GM and offer something really one-sided.

Ob would love to have that all rookie team starting lineup. Evan would have to play PF, gibson at center, Jenning at SF, Curry at SG, and Collison at PG.
