Default Can we pursue Andre Milller (S&T)

He's been on my wish list for ages, but I just realized something.

Philly needs a sold starting PG, but they don't need somebody who's gonna be around for 6 years. Andre Miller's gonna sign a long-term contract, but they don't want to be locked in long term because Jrue should be ready by then.

Even though he's less effective as a PG, might TJ Ford be a better fit in Philly because his contract ends sooner? Might they consider a sign-and-trade for Andre?

Because I'd consider that to be fixing our PG problems.
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

I wouldn't mind. I just hope he wouldn't turn out to be like another T.J. Ford who has great stats, but doesn't fit into our system.

I've thought the same thing. What would be awesome would be a S&T where we payed Miller about 7.65 million for next season, but didn't guarantee the 2nd and 3rd seasons of the contract. We'd wind up with an asset (think Stackhouse's contract in Dallas) that we could trade if we like, or we could just cut him to save money. If we did something like that, we could re-sign Jack also.

Word is that Miller wants 3 years at the full MLE and that Philly doesn't want him for more than 2.

Another word going around is that PHI and NY are gonna do a Miller S&T for Chris Duhon.

Bad move for the 76ers. At least if we traded them Ford, it would be a good trade for both teams.

Andre Miller is actually a terrible fit for the Knicks. If Philly doesn't want TJ, maybe the Knicks do. A three-way might not be a bad idea.

That's an idea. NY is in need of a PG now that they drafted a PF in Jordan Hill.

We still wouldn't have a PG of the future. Just the right to overpay Andre Miller for 3+ years while he goes into decline.

If the pacers make a trade this offseason, this is one that I think bird would look at. If we want Miller, I think we could easily get him. We could even give them a 2nd rd pick, or a HEAVILY protected 1st rd pick to sweeten the deal. But is he worth it?

Andre Miller is worth a lot - and has shown absolutely zero signs of a decline. The guy performs at a crazy level and never misses a game.

The question everyone needs to ask themselves is what do we have that Philly would want? The obvious answer is this: Nothing.

Next Year's #1 is more Valuable to the Pacers Than Andre Miller.

I would like to see Miller suiting up for the P's. They probably wouldn't want the Tin Man, but Ford could do well for the 76ers. If that were to happen I would consider the PG position to be settled for the year.

Looking past the end of our noses. Miller's not a long-term answer (which wouldn't scare me away, but it would also mean I'm not giving up a young player for him, either).

Andre Miller is solid but would be merely a stop gap. Next Years #1 could be used on a Rookie, or be traded for Extra Picks, or be packaged for a player(s) who would be a better option than Miller.

I've always really liked Andre Miller. Since he was with Cleveland. Have always felt he's highly underrated by most.

I would love to see a deal bringing him here. I know it's only short term and he isn't a long term solution, but he would certainly improve the team now. It would be fun watching him run this offense under OB.

I'd like to get him, he'd be pretty good for us, I think. I just don't know how we'd be able to afford him and like Hicks said I don't think I'd want to give up a young guy for him.

Ford could do well with the Pacers, so by letting JJ walk you could say the PG issue is already settled for the year.

In rebuilding I'd think having a chance to get John Wall, Willie Warren, or Tyshawn Taylor (just listing top 3 PG prospects)... Than spending a 1st in a trade to get Andre Miller... is much more important...

...but If we can get Miller for Ford straight up
TJ, don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya!

Just don't see the Pacers going from a rebuild to picking up an aging player in decline...just doesn't seem to me to go along with the strategy. Maybe a couple of years ago when they were trying to put together a patchwork playoff team while rebuilding, but not now. It looks like to me they are going to stick with the play and bring in young, but mature players to develop.

I wouldn't rule it out. Especially considering one of our most important players JJ is going to be gone and Dun Dun will still be missing a large part if not the complete season.

We would be dependant on our rookie and the growth of Hibbert and Rush. That's rather huge expectations IMHO, especially considering that we also lost some depth at C with Rasho gone and Foster is getting older and shakier (it seems)

Then Ford without a decent backup (yes, Diener is a third stringer, but not a direct backup IMO) at PG is to put it mildly rather ... poor.

Then consider that it took us a last game of the season win to rise 3 positions in drafting land this year with arguably a better team and you come to my position that I'm not saying we will be a top-10 pick team, but the possibility is definitely there.

    Just my .

The ONLY positives are I think we got a good perimeter defender, our rookie(s) and the further growth of Rush and Hibbert this coming season. Is it enough with the loss of JJ and Rasho and the aging of Foster (who is important), the uncertainty surrounding Mike and the fragileness of our PG position (while spending a ton because of friggin' Jamaal )? I dunno

Andre Miller is definitely worth any pick from 6-15 and then some. Andre miller is a sure thing. Picks are not.
