Former NFL quarterback McNair killed in Tennessee
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP)—Former NFL quarterback Steve McNair(notes) was shot multiple times, including a shot to the head, and a pistol was discovered near the body of the 20-year-old woman found dead with him Saturday in a downtown condominium.
Nashville police spokesman Don Aaron identified the woman as Sahel Kazemi, whom he called a “friend” of McNair’s. She had a single gunshot wound to the head.
Police said McNair was found on the sofa, and Kazemi was very close to him on the floor. Aaron said the gun was not “readily apparent when the scene was first locked down.”
Autopsies for both were planned for Sunday.
Aaron said McNair’s wife, Mechelle, is “very distraught.”
“At this juncture, we do not believe she is involved,” he said. “Nothing has been ruled out, but as far as actively looking for a suspect tonight, the answer would be no.”
The bodies were discovered Saturday afternoon by one of McNair’s longtime friends.
Police said Kazemi was arrested Thursday on a DUI charge while driving a 2007 Escalade registered to her and McNair. McNair was in the front seat, but didn’t break the law and was allowed to leave by taxi.
Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.
"A player who makes a team great is more valuable than a great player. Losing yourself in the group, for the good of the group, that’s teamwork."
McNair had indeed been dating this girl.
This has the ingredients of a murder-suicide. What the hell was he doing messing with a 20 year old. I send prayers out to his family. unbelievable
Holding, entire colts O-line. 10 yard penalty, repeat 1st down
RIP to Steve. Very sad news.
Of all the celeb deaths to happen recently so far, this one is the most shocking to me.
The more I read about this, the more I hear about it on the radio ........... the more intricate it all gets.
Anyway - I used to hate the Colts vs. Titans. McNair was just a pain in the butt to beat. He just figured out ways to win.
I feel for his family.
Looks like police confirmed murder-suicide. God what a stupid, crazy chick.
This might not be the place for this, but I hate how they are referring to her as his girlfriend...it was his mistress....the word has connotations in the negative for a reason...it needs to be used...
WE ARE NOT GETTING ERIC GORDON
All I'm saying is that from a journalist's perspective, describing her as a "mistress" could very well be considered passing judgment. As you said, it carries negative connotations.
The girl and her family all were under the impression that McNair was going to divorce his wife for the girl. They all thought she was more than just a mistress. McNair's family would probably disagree with that. So, I guess it would depend on who you're asking.
I think it's understandable that some journalists choose to go the safe route and call her a "girlfriend." Not all journalists agree, obviously. I've read some articles that described her as a mistress.
I haven't read any articles describing McNair as "philandering husband Steve McNair." Even though he does fit the dictionary definition of one.
WE ARE NOT GETTING ERIC GORDON
The point is...
McNair was a media darling, and even getting killed by a woman that he was ****ing on side has to be spun where he is at least neutral is ridiculous.
Yes, OK, he was married. But was he separated?
If you are separated then using the word "girlfriend" is proper.
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” - Winston Churchill
“If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to serve as a horrible warning.” - Catherine Aird
So what you're telling me is that Steve McNair played professional sports?
The police said he was also seeing someone else. Feel so bad for his wife and 4 kids -
Headline from CNN this morning"
Mistress killed ex-NFL QB, then self, police say
Of course when you open the article up it says "girlfriend".
Either way a horrible decision by McNair, but not one that he deserved to die over.
