$18 mil over 3 years. That's one heck of a discount.

This is going to be terrible for the Lakers. They have no idea what they are getting into.

Say what you want, but if you're playing the Lakers and you depend on your SG/SF combo for the bulk of your scoring ....

... good FREAKIN luck. You'll need it.

I doubt the Lakers lose both Ariza and Odom. And with the addition of Artest, the Lakers did get better.

They should be the favorite to win the title in 2010.

I put the over/under for Kobe giving Ron the stink-eye during game play at 5 games. Saying something to the press about "getting with the program" at 35 games.

I can't even begin to imagine the distractions and bizarre **** this guy will get into with this entire city at his fingertips.

    They're keeping Odom.

Artest isn't the awesome perimeter defender he once was, but my god, he's a damn good #2 defender behind Kobe.

Ron might be okay with an alpha dog to defer to.

This is a scary development indeed. Lebron better get more help than Shaq.

I think Artest will be on his best behavior the way he was in Houston.

The guy is extremely hungry for a championship and won't do anything to compromise getting one. Phil Jackson's greatest attribute as a coach is his ability to manage egos and players with big personalities and he will keep Ron-Ron in check.

I think you're creeped out that he'll be so close to you.

Anyway, he usually has a good honeymoon period, so I won't expect anything this year.

If he makes it through all three years without issues I'll be surprised.

There are several wild cards here, however.

    1) Phil Jackson is the master of player management

    2) Kobe Bryant will not hesitate to put Artest in his place

    3) This is the best team Artest has ever been a part of, and he has no delusions of being "The Man" on this team.

Really if things were ever going to go smoothly for Ron and the team he is on, this is the perfect situation for it to happen.

Won't change my opinions much on Ron, though.

Ariza going to CLE would be awesome, but it sounds like he's putting money ahead of wins, so I think he'll go to Houston if they can pay more.

This is what Phil Jackson gets paid to handle. He gets paid to coach star players and manage their egos.
No one should have to put up with Ron Artest and his load of . I'm sure Phil is egotistical enough to think he can handle it, but if he's smart he'll just retire.

I still think Ariza was the perfect compliment to Kobe last year. he took all of Kobe's tough assignments from him and stood in a corner and patiently waited for kick-outs. Ron is still a very good defender, but his total lack of basketball IQ on offense is really going to hurt the Lakers' flow. Ron is not a catch-and-shoot kind of player, nor is he the kind of player that stays out of everyone's way.

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

Is all this based simply on a comment from Artest?

I'd like to see a second source before I get too worked up.

Yes is this Ron spouting off because he's bored, bipolar, or something real ?

I'd *like* to think all of the media wouldn't run with it this strongly without making some phone calls.

Every other sports news source says this is coming from Ron and not LAL.

Not to mention a downgrade in being a good teammate.

I don't mind the Lakers and I was cheering for Kobe to win a title this year. I have rooted for them to come out of the west for the past couple of years actually. But I don't think I can root for a team with Ron Artest on it, no matter how much I like Kobe Bryant.

I'm with you and even though Ron isn't solely to blame for all the Pacers problems he sure was a huge part of it. And I'm having the same dilemma as you are.

I've said this dating back all the way to the Lakers/Pacers talks on acquiring Artest.....there are few Players in the league that Artest respects and would defer to.....Kobe is one of those players.

Defer? Ron defer? He thinks he is the alpha dog. I agree with Los Angeles - the temptations readily available are going to cause issues.

By the way, is Ron closing in on the record for the number of teams played for in a career?

Ron can behave 95% of the time but watch out for that other 5%.

The only issues are going to be with Gasol. Pau was already complaining in the finals about not getting enough touches; is Ronna gonna stay within the offense and get the ball to Bynum and Gasol? He'll defer to Kobe, but how about the triangle?
