"Marcin Gortat on his way to Dallas, literally and figuratively. Promises Mavs he'll sign offer sheet July 8th. ESPN.com link on the way."

So that's how low we've gone ..................... sad.

Dampier/Gortat isn't going to send chills thru much of the league. Gortat reminds me of Croshere in the way he's parlaying a decent playoff performance into some serious bucks. Good for him.

You realize this is a guy that has career averages of 3 points and 4 rebounds a game. Well, 12 minutes a game. I'm of Polish origins. Why couldn't I have been 6'11" ??

    Dallas certainly could use him.

The why did they trade Mullens in the draft. They are going to over pay a back up Center? I just dont get this from their front office.

At this point Mullens is a third stringer and a huge project. If he gets on the floor for more than a 5 minute stretch next year in non garbage time I will be surprised.

Agreed but is Gortat really that promising a player that he would be better than Mullens? I have not seen enough of him to pass judgement, but if Dallas really needed a Center than taking a chance on a low draft pick might not have been too bad an idea.

I think Dallas right now is in a win now mode, still. If BJ Mullens is the second best center on your team in 2010 you're not going to win a whole lot of games. Mullens may not be ready in 3 or 4 years, probably around the time Gortat's contract ends.

Is Gortat that much better than Mullens right now? Yeah, absolutely.

Gortrash is my nickname for him. I'm in the boat that says he's getting overpaid for no apparent reason. What has he done to earn more than 2-3 mil a year?

I didn't even hear about Gortat until DW mentioned him during the Playoffs. I think that it's a ploy by DW and D'Antoni to drive up the price of FAs to help thin the herd of Teams looking for FA help.

Mullens' rights were traded to OKC on draft night.

Haha. So Dallas is basically just going to outbid everyone out there. They're gonna be on the end of some favorable sign-and-trades this year and next.

I can't imagine anyone thought Gortat was going to get less than the MLE. For Pete's Sake, he's a big, and "bigs" get paid big bucks.

He's the best center Dallas has had in 20 years. Let that sink in for a while.

Shawn Bradley was mentioned I think it was on Yahoo! that he was a bust. He was a decent shot blocker but that is basically all he had.

I didn't hate him. But Gortat is a better player.

Bradley was a 7'6" scarecrow. Scary from afar but once you got close enough you realized he was just a really big cardboard facsimilie.

Bradley was a good shot blocker, but a terrible man to man defender and terrible offensive player. Gortat is at least decent in every aspect.

Say what you will about how he was in the 2000's, but when he got to Dallas he put up (almost) 15ppg, 9rpg, 2.7blk, 1ast.

I don't know about that, all I recall is that he had knee problems.

Yep. Check out his 96-97 DAL line.

He wasn't always a scarecrow. His first few years there were pretty decent.
