Default Trevor Ariza headed to Rockets

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/s...e=NBAHeadlines

Says Lakers were unwilling to pay more than the MLE, so it sounds like the deal starts at higher than $5.6m the first year.

Essentially a trade of Ariza for Artest.

No Yao, likely no TMac either, no more Ron....

Ariza might be a #2 or #3 option on that team. Scary.

He is not going to do anything in Houston, they are going to be in rebuilding mode next year anyway, can we get Scola?

Yeah, Houston may be lottery bound next year without T-Mac and Yao. They may find a way to squeak in, but this week the West got a heck of a lot stronger...let alone they were strong to begin with.

they are not squeaking anywhere without Yao.

    PG: Brooks
SG: Battier (TMac if theyre lucky)
    SF: Ariza
    PF: Landry
    C: Scola

TMac or no TMac, that is a lottery team.

I don't see how they come close to making the playoffs next year.

The Lakers and the Magics got way better I don't know who the cavs can get who can help them win a championship, they could not get either ariza or artest, I think that the best option out there is marquis or marion

Joe Smith is the only power forward on Cleveland's roster. They just might want to upgrade that spot before looking for more wings...

They should get Powe. Won't help now, but will later.

they need someone that can replace the defense Ben Wallace and Varejao gave them. Powe is another offensive player on a team full of them.

I don't get their obsession with adding more offense, at the expense of their defense. They got slower, less mobile and easier to score inside on.

Does someone need to remind Ferry that Kevin Garnett is still in his conference?

I still think they should try LeBron at the 4. Solves a lot of issues for them if he can take the pounding. I'd like to think he can take it.

He would get bullied by a lot of teams. LeBron is big, but he's not that big.

he's about Ron's size. And Ron couldn't defend PFs on a consistent basis, either.

It's not just about size, it's about being able to play the part. Lebron has never played the post in his life and I doubt they ask him to do it in a contract season.

Yea, but if they can turn T-Mac's expiring into a draft pick or a young talent, and pray that Yao recovers in a year, then throw in a lottery pick and maybe something you can get for Battier, that's gonna be a great young team someday.

They have pieces, and they have a smart GM, so I think they'll be OK long term. It all depends on Yao's foot.

I sense an overrated plummet in his future.

It's fun to feed off being weakside help sneaking into the passing lane when someone else forces a team into a bad pass, or ripping the lane off a double team ball rotation.

Not so much fun when you must be a primary focus point.

Croshere once got paid for a timely favorable match up vs Horry when Reggie, Rik, Jax, et all were drawing the primary attention. I don't even see Ariza as low as that, but I do think he's been more athlete than true player up to this point.

I am a big fan of Artest, but I think the Lakers have made a huge gamble with their chemistry.

Not only is Artest a crazy wildcard, but more importantly Ariza was a major player for them in crunch time. He hit very big shots and made huge steals at the end of games. That is a hard knack to measure. But it led to a championship for the Lakers this year.

Without Ariza, I don't think they would have won this year, or got there. They surely could win it all with Artest as well, but just as surely, they may not.

You also take away his passing, vision and ability to create by putting him there. He'd probably still be one of the better (and best passing) NBA PF's - but he's THE best SF.

Lebron at SF plus at least a serviceable PF > Lebron at PF

But you want to have at least a serviceble 3 (which they didn't have last year) so that you have the option to go small with LeBron at the 4. I don't think anyone is suggesting starting LeBron at the 4.
