Default Wing Player Free Agents of 2009 - Who Do You Want?

    Ronald Flip Murray
    Ben Gordon
    Gerald Green
    James Singleton
    Dhantay Jones
    Allen Iverson
    Von Wafer
    Ron Artest
    Marquis Daniels
    Ricky Davis
    Jason Hart
    Trevor Ariza
    Quinton Ross
    Rodney Carney
    Ryan Bowen
    Desmond Mason
    Keith Bogans
    Kareem Rush
    Matt Barnes
    Grant Hill
    Ime Udoka
    Anthony Parker
    Morris Almond
    Ronnie Price
    Juan Dixon

Not a lot of great guys to consider but a few would really fit in well with the Pacers and some of them should come pretty cheap.

Trevor Ariza and Dahntay Jones are the best fits for the Pacers and could really give us the defensive spark we need off the bench but would probably take more than the Pacers can offer to pull them away from their respective teams.

Of the cheaper options, I like Anthony Parker, Matt Barnes, Rodney Carney, and Ime Udoka the best.

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.

That's a pretty unattractive list. One-year contracts, anyone?
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

Wafer, Carney, Bogans, Barnes (depending on his rep), Hill, Udoka, Parker would interest me. All for the role of 3rd, later to be 4th, swingman on the team.

I agree with D Jones and Imukado (spelling)

I am intrigued by James Singleton. I rememeber he started off two seasons ago on fire and seems to always play well against the Pacers but I have not viewed him that much.

Not that I would want Juan Dixon but that would be cool to see Dun (duke), Hans (UNC) and Dixon (Maryland) all on the floor together throw in McRoberts also and get a Wake Forest guy and you got Tobacco Road in Indiana. But seriously I like Jones and Ariza the best out of that list.

Quinton Ross is a decent defender.

I've always sort of liked the idea of giving Mo Almond a shot, but I don't think he can play any defense at all.

Grant Hill would be great around our fans and young guys, but I don't see any reason as to why he would have any interest in playing for the Pacers.

Looks like a list of stopgaps, though.
    Already stoked for 2013-2014.

Rodney Carney is still young and could probably be had for relatively cheap, Mason, Singleton, Green, and Bogans could probably be had on the cheap also. Jones and Ariza would probably command the full MLE and I don't think the Simons want to spend that this summer.

    A defender.

Dahntay Jones is growing a reputation as a top-notch perimeter defender. Assuming that reputation is based in reality, he'd be a good, fairly cheap pick-up.

Man, I overlooked Jones the first time. He'd definitely be on my list.

1st lets determine WHAT a wing player is. To me it's one that can play BOTH the SF & SG spots. Am I wrong in my thinking? If that's correct, I see players on here that only play 1 of the 2 positions such as

    Dixon
    Price
    Iverson
    Bogans
    Price
    Parker
    Hart
    Gordon
    Murray

Which doesn't qualify them as wing players.

    Isn't Singleton considered a PF?

Here's a definition of the term Wing as it relates to basketball:

Wing - The area of the court immediately to the left and right of the foul line. Also known as the " free throw line extended on the offensive end".

I always considered a "Wing Player" a player that plays primarily from the wing spots on the floor despite their position but usually is a SG or SF. Dirk is a PF but plays more like a wing player for instance.

I view a wing as a perimeter oriented player that can defend 2s and 3s.

I'd like to grab both quinton ross and rodney carney with the money we have left over between resigning jack and mcroberts. I don't know if Carney will go for loose change, but Ross should be had at a 1 mil value.

Whoever we grab, I think we need two wings. One may be Graham. The other will probably be the best defender willing to sign with us.

Other than Ross and Carney, I would like to grab:

Von Wafer, Barnes, or Anthony Parker. Ime Udoka and Dahntay Jones would be nice as well.

Word is that the Pacers were interested in Almond when he came out. So its a possibility that they could see him as a backup 2.

I'm not big on many of those guys. Ariza/Jones/Barnes I see commanding more money then the Pacers are willing to spend.

There are 4 guys on that list I would want and are likely to come cheap. Quinton Ross, Kareem Rush, Morris Almond, and Rodney Carney.

    Ross is known for defense.

I am probably alone on this one but I like Kareem. I think he did a decent job for the Pacers and would love to have him back as a backup especially considering the other options here. He is more proven then about all of the other guys here.

Almond might be ok but really I don't see him being better than Kareem. Almond hasn't played much and I wonder if it is due to injuries.

Carney might turn out to be ok. I don't know a ton about him but I think he might make a decent backup.

I totally forgot that the Free Agency period starts at 12:01am EST tonight.....I'm hoping that Bird is on the phone at 12:01am calling either Ross, Udoka or some Wing Player that has some solid perimeter defensive skills.

Another thing......although I would settle for Graham as a consolation prize.....I'd be okay with not resigning him IF we had a chance at a solid perimeter defender.

He'd be an alright backup. But then he wouldn't be happy, start whining, demand a trade, and we'd get back Samuel Dalambert.

I'd only sign Marion for the minimum for one year as a stop gap back-up SF.
