    Default Pacers-Celtics Trade

Who says no to this first?

    IND gets:
    Rondo
    Allen (expiring)

    BOS gets:
    Troy
    TJ
    Rush
    Future protected 1st

Boston gets a starting PG that pushes the pace so he's the opposite of their backup Marbury. They also get a great scorer off the bench at the 4 in Murphy, since they're thin up front. He stretches the D for Perk or KG and can rebound. The defensive strength of the players around him cover up TJ and Murphy's weaknesses. Rush is their SG of the future, and can contribute immediately, both on defense and with his shooting (plus he's added to his game this summer I'm sure). The future protected 1st may help them in their rebuilding. They stay competitive now, and it doesn't mess up their rebuild in 2 year as PP, TJ, and Troy ALL come off the books. They'd have a ton of trade chips.

Indiana gets their starting PG, and one of the top PGs in the league, as he continues to improve. They get Championship experience in both of these guys. Rondo is resigned long term, Ray may be used as a trade chip at the deadline or allowed to expire to resign Rondo. We perhaps become more competitive immediately, while having a future core of Rondo, Granger, Hansbrough, Hibbert. I'd LOVE to keep Rush but it wouldn't make sense for Boston then. It really depends on whether you think Rush will be a top 10 SG, as Rondo is already a top 10 PG (IMO). Losing Rush and the 1st hurts, but we get back a starter, and a good veteran leader/shooter in Ray that could be traded for some young pieces at the deadline or something. Or we could keep him and we'd be pretty good next season. If our frontcourt was solid we'd make the playoffs IMO.

    Rondo/Ray/Granger/Hansbrough/Hibbert
    Jack (hopefully)/Dunleavy/McRoberts/Foster

as the 9 man rotation. If Dun came back fine in January we could move Ray for a young SG and slide Dun into the starting 2 guard spot.

So is this giving up too much? Or is it fair for both?

You lost me at trading Rush. Too much to give up. No reason to get rid of him for a 1 year rental in Allen. So you're giving up Rush, TJ, Murph AND a future first rounder for Rondo and unknown pieces in the future ?? I'll pass.

And I'm not that high on Rondo. I think a lot of PGs could have been successful with KG, Pierce & Allen around.

I don't want to trade him either, and I doubt Bird would do this. But at the same time, we could get some great pieces for Ray at the deadline. Rondo is proving to be a very good PG, and SGs tend to be pretty replaceable. You could take out the 1st possibly, I don't know if Boston would do it without it though. You give up TJ and Troy, but that doesn't hurt much in the future, or at all if we remain competitive now.

Maybe you could give up Hibbert instead of Rush, but I doubt it. I'd rather do that though.

I'd rather keep the known pieces (Rush, Hibbert), have the expiring of Troy and TJ in 2 years and a #1 in the meantime. Does anyone realize what the salary situation is going to look like in 2 years ??

I think they're doing a fine job in getting pieces together and positioning for 2 years from now.

clearly I would not give up on Rush that easily. We give way too much in this deal

plus I really don't like Rondo, especially his attitude (cf. last playoffs)

so I'll pass on this one

Give him up easily? You'd be getting the best player in the deal. You're giving up Rush and a pick.

Troy and TJ Ford are high salaried fringe starters who probably couldn't move you up in the draft if you offered them up in trade.

Pacers pass. Rondo is a nice player, but Pacers have too many 1's right now. Allen turns 34 in a few weeks and has maybe 2-3 years left and is a good player and probably not the best fit for the young Pacers. Rush is 10 years younger than Allen, is on a rookie deal and we give up a first? Rondo seems to be on the outs in Boston anyway.

If there was any way to get Rush out of the deal then I'd be ok. I'd even be ok with the draft pick if it were lottery protected.

Right when I said protected 1st, that's basically what I meant. I doubt we could take Rush out but maybe we could take the 1st out. IDK.
