Default Report: Celtics Offered Pistons Mega Deal

The Celtics reportedly offered Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen to the Pistons for Rodney Stuckey, Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince.

League sources told Yahoo! Sports of the deal, which reportedly never made it past lower level executives as Detroit rejected the offer immediately.

The offer was made this past weekend.

What a crazy lineup Celtics could have had: Stuckey, Peirce, Prince, KG, Perkins

Wow, talk about the most one-sided offer in the history of sports.

This just goes to show you that Dumars is not a fool. Either Ainge has balls, or he is extremely stupid.

i agree with Detroit rejecting this pick. An old Allen and Rondo? Rondo and Stuckey are both young guards who have tremendous upside so thats a wash and then Allen vs. Prince and Hamilton? Personally you take out Prince and this almost is trading the same players. Prince is tremendous on the defensive end.

I can't figure out why the Celtics want to deal Rondo. Perhaps it has something to do with his value being so high after his incredible playoffs? They are worried about signing him to an extension?

You would think. Ainge would probably have to offer their next three year's worth of first rounders, too.

The article stated that he reportedly has been displaying problems being mature.

I'm guessing Boston figured that Detroit would covet Allen's 2010 expiring contract since that would again give them cap space to work with in the next offseason. But still, if Detroit were to let go of Stuckey, Hamilton, and Prince, what would they be left with? Essentially Rondo and Amir Johnson?

Everyone seems to forget that he allegedly has an attitude problem at Kentucky. Could be that characteristic wearing thin post-title.

I'm very surprised this was reported because if you read the article Ainge and Dumars never discussed this possible trade - Only lower level executives did. If the media starts reporting every trade discussion such as this, there will be rumors about every player in the NBA. I find this silly to even report

Chad Ford was just on TV and said that Ainge made the offer and that "the Pistons front office is still laughing".

I think they might be able to get TMac for that package.

I could see Houston dealing TMac and Aaron Brooks for that package.

For what they offered us? You have gotta be kidding me.

I really liked Rondo and wanted him since he was at UK. But the idea that we'd give up that much for him is a joke.

I would guess Ainge is trying to sell high. I think Rondo is better than Stuckey, but Hamilton/Prince is just much better than an old Ray Allen.

I nice attempt by Ainge to make something happen, but Dumars wisely turned it down.

Deal sucks for the Pistons. Geez....talk about low-balling the Pistons. Rondo+Allen are great......and is a solid deal for any team looking to shed salary for 2010.....but at the price of Stuckey, Rip AND Prince? Seems a little too steep considering that the Pistons are swimming in Capspace.

It seems y'all have more faith in a team with rapidly declining wings that will cost roughly $55mil over the next few seasons than I do.

    rapidly declining? WTF?

Tayshaun Prince is a whole 3 years older than Danny Granger. Rip was dealing with injuries and being constantly yanked from reserve to starter. Get a grip.

I think the Pistons might need to "blow it up", but this isn't it.

The only difference between a reload and a rebuild is including Rip and Tay. Even if you add Gordon and Boozer this offseason, is that team really a serious championship contender? I do think 'rapidly declining' applies way more to Rip than it does Tay, you're still talking about paying over $10mil to those guys for the next two years (followed by two additional years for Rip). Will Tayshaun be giving you $20mil worth of production the next two years? How is this any different than the Billups trade? Billups was certainly more of a leader for the team than either Rip or Tayshaun have been. When talking about moving Rip given his age and the extension you're talking about taking pennies on the dollar most likely - but if you have to do that, a big expiring like AI (or in this case Shuttlesworth) isn't a bad idea.

I'm not saying Dumars should have jumped on this deal and run, but I'm puzzled by how everyone thinks this was an awful deal for the Pistons.
