Clearly, it's the 6-3 Clint Richardson.

Owens. Mostly for what it cost to get him.

Hahaha sorry I took the time and wrote down a list and was copying from my list and it got thrown in. My fault.

Edwards was still here in the 80s? If so, its a toss-up between "Jimmy" and Tom Owens. Also, Tank never played C for the Pacers, Smits, Dreiling and Gray took those minutes.
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

Hey guys just so you do not think i am pulling these names from my backside I went to the rosters located at basketball-refernce.com and searched the starters for the seasons in the 80s with their minutes. if I miss someone as I said because I am young please feel free to add the name. I am not ashamed to say i made a mistake.

Greg Dreiling isn't on the list so I can't in good conscience vote for any ot these other guys. They were all light years ahead of Greg on the offensive end of the floor.

Here's my analysis, based on my memories, of Big Greg:

The stiffest, slowest basketball player I've ever seen. This guy made Eric Montross look like Pau Gasol as far as quickness and lateral movent is concerned. He was a nice guy but a total waste of height and size.

I was probably only 11 at the time but I used to wish we had a center that could at least do one good thing on the offensive end of the court. Since he became the defacto starter after Steve Stipanovich's career ending injuries it was like going from Danny Granger to Dorell Wright.

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.

I guess I can vote in this poll since Big Greg didn't become a starter until the 1990-91 season.

Congratulations, Cleamon Johnson! You are the worst starting center of the 80's.

Although Dreiling and Stuart Gray were 2/3 of the "Three Stooges" (along with either Smits or Stipo), I think Stuart was actually worse offensively than Dreiling.

Dreiling was a decent defend-the-post center, which is why Bo Hill had some success starting him ahead of Smits on a team that was very preoccupied with offense in the first place. No question Smits was the better player, but Dreiling worked better with Micheal, Reggie and Chuck and Smits was better with Detlef and Vern.
