Default Bird Gets Honorary Degree From BU

Celtics' legend Larry Bird, current president of the Pacers, received an honorary degree from Boston University on Sunday.

The school was celebrating it's 136th graduation.

Bird attended Indiana State, but spent his entire NBA career with the Celtics in Boston.

I don't understand the honorary degree concept.

Here's something useless for doing absolutely nothing. Congrats.

    Huh ??

Boston University? For a second I thought they were talking about a Boston-area college that actually mattered. I believe an honorary degree from BC trumps a bachelors from BU.

    We'll re-take the bean pot.

Ya I never really understood honorary degrees. I remember at my undergrad graduation, McMaster University gave someone an honorary doctors of law degree to someone, but the funny thing was McMaster University doesnt even have a law school

I got one of those on the internet for $19.95. But wait, since I ordered so quickly I also got an honorary degree in Physics.

It was probably just a token of thanks for doing something for them at their commencement.

Let's hope the degree wasn't in "Language Arts".

Absolutely. Honorary Degrees are the academic equivalent of a lifetime achievement award, and are given in thanks for doing something big for the school (like speaking at the commencement).

They mean what they mean: "I won an award." In that respect, yes, you definitely can put it on your resume.

    I know I would.
