Default Links on possible Pacer move

Saw another thread about the Pacers possibly moving to Vancouver.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1...pitch-to-simon

I doubt this would happen. Even if Herb wanted to sell the Pacers and the Canuck's owner was willing to put up the money, I doubt the NBA would let it happen. Honestly, Vancouver is not a basketball city. If you read the 2 links properly, the main source is the first one (so its not 2 reports, its really only considered one). And how reliable is 'Bleacher Report"? I've never heard of it.

    This is interesting nevertheless:
Simon, could be using Aquilini as leverage against the Indianapolis Capital Improvement Board.
"So, which one of you guys is going to come in second?" - Larry Bird before the 3 point contest. He won.

Bleacher Report is run by Fox Sports and CBS Sportsline.

I really do think that Simon is leveraging. Like the article said, Schultz did the same thing in Seattle, but he did sell when he didn't get what he wanted and now the Seattle Sonics don't exist anymore.

I also read somewhere that Simon can't take the financial losses anymore.

Is it true the Pacers lost $40M this year?

Yeah, thats what they owe in rent... we won't know until July what they truly lost when the NBA collects the financial reports from all the teams.

    Are you sure??

It does say that the Bleacher Report is 'the open source sports network'.

A quick check on the internet shows that the site is owned by Brian Goldberg Development

    http://www.whois.net/whois/bleacherreport.com

though there are fox sports and cbs sports partner logos at the bottom of the page.

Jack Trudeau was on JMV last Friday and said that (through someone real close to the situation) if the problems with the CIB didn't get cleared up real soon, the Pacers were moving.

Everytime I hear the name Trudeua I now think of Jack and his charitable way to help kids.

A Vancouver radio station is running with this. I think it's their number one sports station too, so it's gotta be legit.

LOL, because local sports radio is always a great, unbiased source of information.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Pacers left Indianapolis, really, I wouldn't, and if it happens, shame on the fans for not being there when the franchise needed it most.

But if they go anywhere, I highly doubt it will be Vancouver, unless someone really wants to lose a lot of money owning an NBA team. If I were an owner, I'd be thinking about San Diego principally and then maybe Vegas or Kansas City.

Just because a local radio station is running it that doesnt mean its legit. Local radio stations always air rumors, it helps their ratings to present news that locals would like to hear.

I remember back in the days (when Vince Carter was good), a broadcaster called CP24.com (which is pretty big back in Toronto) rumored that Carter was traded to the Hornets for Baron and local baller Magloire. They basically said its a done deal! And evidently it never went through

No. I can't think of a less reliable source on the web. I can literally set up an account right now and be writing an article in under an hour.

Agreed, honestly nothing against Vancouver, but until cities like Vegas, Pittsburgh, or Tampa Bay get tossed out there it just sounds like background noise.

I understand this line of thinking and this basically contradicts my last post, but hey, here we go.

Even though we all have a mental hierarchy of cities in our heads no matter how right we are about the financial efficacy of a city to have a team, it doesn't really matter. This is all circumstantial and based off of luck and depends solely on what ownership group pops up and where they put a team. If I were an owner, I would probably put a team in Vegas, Tampa, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, and San Diego before Oklahoma City, but Clay Bennett happened to be the only guy willing to take on the Sonics at the time and thus the team went to OKC.

Hey, I'm not saying I want this to happen, but if I were looking to buy an NBA team expansion team (NOT the Pacers), those would be the cities I considered.

If I were to get 10 billion dollars tomorrow, one of the first things I'd do is buy the Pacers, call a press conference, and promise the people of Indiana that the team would never move under my watch.

These rumors don't make any sense. There's a reason Vancouver lost the Grizzlies in the first place. If the Simons think they're losing money in Indy, they'd be hemorrhaging it in Vancouver.

A well managed team would probably make good money in Vancouver, just like Toronto. If Stern had given them a top 5 pick from the outset, they might have ended up with Rasheed Wallace or KG instead of Big Country Reeves. Stu jackson's drafting record wasn't any better after that either.

Having said that, this story is pure BS unless it comes from a legitimate source.

I'll be done with the NBA if the Pacers move. It's sad that the taxpayers have to bail out an NBA franchise. The tax on hotels & restaurants should be enough to pay for that field house. I have to ask, with all the deals on tickets this past year how full would Conseco have been? Can we blame this on Tinsley?

My blog simulposts on Bleacher Report, so honestly any bozo can post whatever they want. I do not count it as a reliable source.

Also did anyone see this comment on the second link?

    Abdul,

You forgot to mention that the city has the first option to purchase the Pacers in their contract along with a $100+ million break up fee.

    Accuracy of that statement? Anyone?
