Default 2009 PD Forum Awards - Award Winners

Welcome to the 2009 Pacers Digest Forum Awards!

This year, things will be somewhat different than before.

To make your nominations, post them here. Do not PM me with your nominations!
Once all nominations are in, I will select the top-5 (less if there aren't 5, more if there's a tie) in each award category.

I will keep accepting nominations through sometime Friday evening.

There will be four awards up for vote the next 4 weeks, Monday through Friday.

Anyone who is banned, an alias, or clearly doing a schtick (someone who fakes being negative, sunshiner, anything else) is ineligible for nomination. You cannot vote for yourself.

thunderbird1245 is retired from the Best Arm Chair Coach award to spice things up, but in honor of his otherwise dynasty-worthy posting in this regard, I am naming the award after him.

MagicRat is retired from the Most Humorous Poster award for his legendary body of work.

Here are this year's award categories:

Most Valuable Poster - The poster you always make sure you read above all others, and/or who you feel means the most to the forum.

Rookie of the Year - The best poster to register after the last round of forum awards.

The MagicRat Most Humorous Poster - Who was funniest?

Best Debator - Who is the most effective and civil at making their case in any disagreement?

Post More Often - Who do you wish would post more often the most?

The Thunderbird1245 Best Arm Chair Coach - Who most belongs on an actual bench?

Darksider of the Year - Who was the most pessimistic?

Sunshiner of the Year - Who was the most optimistic?

Moderate Poster of the Year - Who was the most consistently stable poster who was neither too too dark or too light?

Best Non-American Poster - Who was the best poster not from the USA?

Best Non-Pacer Fan - Who was the best outsider?

Underrated Poster of the Year - Who is MVP-like but goes largely unnoticed?

Pacers Post of the Year - What was the best single Pacers-related post?

Pacers Thread of the Year - What was the best single Pacers-related thread?

Off Topic Post of the Year - What was the best single off topic post?

Off Topic Thread of the Year - What was the best single off topic thread?

This is gonna require some thought.

I'm only in my second month as a PD member so you can't vote for yourself can you?

Good question. You cannot vote for yourself. I'll add that in.

Hicks: Thank you for the kudos....and congratulations to all the eventual nominees and winners.

It is nice to be well thought of for what is written on here. I do appreciate it, and really have come to enjoy this board over the years that I have been here.

Here are my nominees for selected awards:

ROOKIE OF YEAR: I really could use a list of people here...tough to remember exactly when someone started. Someone above me nominated Plax, who I think is excellent. If Count55 is eligible for this award, he should be nominated as well.

DEBATOR: Probably should nominate both Naptown Seth and Count55. This will probably be a close vote for me. I have a feeling Seth and I will be having some debates shortly regarding our scouting for the draft that will be interesting.

POST MORE OFTEN: There are alot of people I wish posted more often, but this one has to be Mboyle. I also wish Jay and Peck posted more....I think Jay is very intelligent to listen to, and he has a different perspective than most. I love Peck's threads as well. Danny Granger just signed up, obviously I'd like to see him post more.ABA Days is another one. Many others too numerous to mention for me in this category.

ARMCHAIR COACH: Since this award is named after me, I'm going to think about this one a little more. There are some good candidates.

DARKSIDER: Not normally, but this one is Shade for me for his intense dislike last summer of the Bayless trade.

SUNSHINER: Someday, this award may be named after Duke Dynamite.

THREAD OF THE YEAR: This has to go to Jose Slaughter for the "This day in Pacer history" threads. I know what kind of work and effort that must have taken, and that type of dedication deserves recognition.

MVP: This is always a tough call....I don't think I even voted last year. I will be curious to see who the five nominees end up being. For me, I would vote UncleBuck I think just because he participates in almost every thread with intelligent thought, and often is the stimulus to provoke more interesting thought in discussions that maybe wouldn't have done so without him. Obviously, as the head honcho of the board Hicks deserves some kudos here as well.

    MVP:

count55, imawhat, melliflous, (just my opinion, but the admins shouldn't be eligible for this one.)

    Post more Often:

Beast23, MagicRat, Ragnar, able, btown, Kegboy

    Armchair Coach:

imawhat, count55, Seth, MagicRat, melliflous, bball

    Best Debater:

    Since86, Seth,

    Moderate Poster:

Putnam, melliflous, imawhat, count55, Los Angeles

    Pacers post of the year:

imawhat: http://www.pacersdigest.com/apache2-...4&postcount=60 and http://www.pacersdigest.com/apache2-...2&postcount=62 and to be fair and balanced, Count55 also deserves a nomination for http://www.pacersdigest.com/apache2-...0&postcount=65 MagicRat: http://www.pacersdigest.com/apache2-...&postcount=136

Off topic post of the year:

    bball: http://www.pacersdigest.com/apache2-...33&postcount=5

    Sunshiner:

    Darksider:

Kegboy, Shade, remind me again who the anti-Granger goofballs were - I didn't pay any attention to them so I don't remember who they were.

    Humerous:

MagicRat (if there is an award to be named after a poster, it is this one.)

That's about all I care about.
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

You know what, Jay, you're right. I'm going to make that official right now. If anyone deserves it, it's MagicRat. His contributions to PD (particularly in the earlier days) are worthy of his status as a PD Legend.

You clearly missed the part about schtick.

That's right, you wasted a year's worth of energy on this futile effort.

    I 2nd that nomination. *

    * There aren't many things more offensive on a message board than double posting, except maybe nominating yourself for awards. How can I lose this one. **

** By it not being a category, sure, but that's just short sighted people keeping me down. I hate the blind. You'd think they'd stink less than they tend to with all that enhanced sense of smell and crime fighting ability. ***

*** All Daredevil references are inherently offensive now thanks to Ben Affleck. But I'm pretty sure it's okay to still make fun of the optically challenged.

I'm flattered. I would campaign, but I think I stepped on some toes last year.

I will however gladly accept the award in my name and wish to be nominated for it as well.

I'm assuming you mean flox, but neither flox nor I are eligible, as we both joined back in 2007.

A list of newbies would be good, because it's tough to tell.

    Some rookies for nomination:

Mr. Sparko, Peter SixtyFtsixin, Phree Refill

While we're at it, I wanted to nominate Phree's ".500 Schedule very attainable thread"

    http://www.pacersdigest.com/apache2-...ad.php?t=44042

    Not attained, but great effort.

I remember an option on the Members List that listed posters according to the date they joined.

Any chance we could get that feature back?

Jose, just go to Member's list, select the "Search Members" (upper right hand, just above the b-day column), then click on "Advanced Search", scroll down a little, and you'll find a box for "Join Date". In the "After" Box, just put in the date (I used 2008-06-01), and then hit search.

When the report is returned, I just clicked on the header for the "Posts" column, and that sorted it in descending order.
