Report: NBA to tap LeBron as MVPComment Email Print Share ESPN.com news services

The NBA will announce LeBron James as its MVP on Monday, The Plain Dealer of Cleveland has reported.

    James

A day before the Cleveland Cavaliers begin their second-round series against the Atlanta Hawks, the league will anoint James, who turns 25 on Dec. 30, as its second-youngest MVP.

Wes Unseld won the award at 23 as a rookie with the Baltimore Bullets in 1968-69.

James, whose Cavaliers swept the Detroit Pistons in the first round of the playoffs, averaged 28.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 7.6 assists during the regular season, his sixth in the NBA.

The Cavs host Atlanta on Tuesday after the Hawks finished off the Miami Heat in Game 7 of their first-round series Sunday.

Well deserved if you ask me. He stepped his defense up this season and improved his FT shooting and overall shooting from the field. His team had the best record in the league and they tied the All-Time home record of 40-1 set by the 1986 Celtics and won the most games since Jordan's Bulls 72 game season in 1996.

He's the best SF to play the game since Larry Bird and when it's all said and done, he'll probably be considered the greatest SF of All-Time.

It was a no-brainer that he was the MVP. It'll be interesting to see the vote totals and see who else received first-place MVP votes and how many people didn't vote for Lebron.

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.

I want to add that being on the USA team was great for him, Wade, Melo, and Kobe, and thus for the league. I think that teams who have USA players should be compensated in luxury tax relief for their investment.

Interestingly enough, he also played the least amount of minutes of any season in his career. The extra time he was able to rest was probably one of the reasons he had the energy to play better defense.

FTR, they came up one win short of tying the Celts home record. Mike Brown decided to sit all the starters and they lost a close game to the 76ers.

Wow, I totally missed that. That has to suck just a little. Still that just further proves the point that without Lebron, they can't even win at home.

Good call, even if he is becoming an arrogant jerkface.

LeBron is becoming arrogant, but in this case I have to respect his talent. Great job, LeBron.

Just a question (no disrespect intended), but how is Lebron becoming arrogant?

He has developed a sense of entitlement. He never believes he violates a rule (see: dribble, crab). He complains about virtually every call that goes against him, even though he gets more benefit from the officials than arguably any other player in the league.

LeBron is Michael Jordan 2.0, both in the areas of skill and ego.

He also refers to his teammates as "The supporting cast" and has "The Chosen One" as a tattoo...

Of course I have no issue with arrogance personally but I do have an issue with those who aren't honest about it.

With LeBron its disguised as "humility" and as much as I despised Jordan he was upfront about his arrogance.

Not yet, which is kinda strange. You'd think they'd announce MIP before MVP.

Could the voting really be that close?

Kobe only had 2 first place votes. Wade had more first place votes than him. I thought that was interesting.
