Well, after a fair amount of deliberation I finally decided to get my foot fixed.
I go in tomorrow morning.
Basically, I've got two problems. My heel bone is square at the top instead of round, which irritates the achillies tendon as it moves over it. So, basically my heel is painful all the time now. The other problem is with my big toe joint on the same foot. I figured that one for "turf toe", but it's really a bone problem as well - one of them is too long and doesn't mate up squarely at the joint.
I was somewhat hopeful a lot of rest would fix them. I haven't played basketball in almost 6 months. But they - especially the heel - has been getting steadily more painful, especially in the last month. I finally decided I needed to get them fixed.
Surgery is at 9 am.
I've never really had surgery, so I'm a little nervous. It should take about an hour.
Then 3 weeks in a hard boot.
Another 3 or so in a soft boot.
I should be back to full activities in 8 weeks or so, with another 4 to get my strength back.
They basically reshape the back of my heel bone and clean out the scar tissue and bursal sac. The achillies tendon itself was in pretty good shape on the ultrasound. Hopefully they won't have to mess with it much.
Wish me luck, or rather wish the surgeon luck. I just have to lie there.
