Default Fall Forum Party - 11-21 - Ashton Brook Apartments Clubhouse

For our newer members of the forum, a couple times a year members of the forum gather to share their thoughts over pizza.

We have been doing this for longer than I can remember now. Once during the off season, usually early to mid July, following the draft & just after the free agent signing period starts. Then again a few weeks into the season, after the team has settled into their game a little.

EDIT: Date: 5:00 Saturday November 21st
    Location: Ashton Brook Apartments Clubhouse

A couple of comments about the party.

These get togethers are open to everyone. Doesn't matter how much or how little you post. Even if you're an unregistered "lurker" you are very much invited.

We usually chip in for the eats. In the past the food of choice has been pizza. Some times we buy drinks for the group, some times you bring your own. Just depends on where we have the party. For the most part 10 bucks covers the food & tip.

Theres no guest list. I do like to keep track of those that have an interest in coming but thats just to let our host know how many people we could have. If you've been dying to come but something happens at the last minutes & you can't make it.... we're fine with that.

If you have plans to go to the opera or something & at the last minute those plans fall through.... you can drop by at the last moment.

Surprise guest are always the best kind!

This is not work, you don't need to be there at a certain time. We have a start time but if you want to show up a couple hours later.... no problem.

We stay out pretty late as well. If we run past your bed time or you have a long drive to get home.... not a problem there either.

Anyway, thats the basics. These gatherings are very casual & more fun than you would think.

If you have any questions please post them here or drop me a PM.

    Thanks

While I don't LOVE it, I'm satisfied with Donato's. I always like being in range to head to Perkins for the "Late Night" edition of the party, too.

Plumlee reminds me of a young Dale Davis. Good rebounding and he contests shots well on defense and his offensive game is very raw just like DD's was coming out of college.

Mmm... Sausage/BBQ sounds like a good combination.

    Donato's/Nora is serviceable.

Besides my teams and my friends, the top 2 reasons to move back to Indy were Mike Sells and Noble Romans.

There is a stand alone Noble Romans Restaurant near my house. I just wonder how busy it is on a Saturday night. I'd like to talk to them and see if our gathering could fit into their plans if anyone is interested in Noble Romans on the west side of Indianapolis.

The concept is there with the "window" to see them hand tossing the crust. The dinning room is the same as Hicks and I remember them from back in the day. The taste was what I remember...

    Pretty close actually.

Yeah, that one looks like the one New Castle had back in the early 90's, and probably it looked that way during the 80's.

I will be in Indy for the weekend of the third weekend of July so if you guys do it that weekend I would love to join you all. But if not I totally understand and will be in there in spirit.

As for location, I'm a Shelbyville guy and anywhere in Indianapolis is pretty easy to get to.

As much as I'd love to have it in Bloomington, (I have a nice conference room), I'd not jump off a building if we chose Donato's and Perkins.

I think more space is a must. We have had more new members this season IMO. Donato's is great but we may run out of space.

Nah, I didn't see space being an issue at Donatos. I thought space was one of the few positives about Donatos/Nora.

Damn, I miss Briggsy's Pizza King. It was a good home for this.

There's a Noble Romans on 96th street too. I checked it out, gees... must be two years ago now. It wasn't really set up to handle one of our parties so I never gave it much thought after the visit. Maybe the Plainfield local is better.

Speaking of old time pizza places... anyone remember Shakey's at 38th & Shadeland?

I didn't know Mother Bear's was still around. Where is it? Donato's is my favorite pizza from a chain.

Yeah, my favorite from a chain also - but I could name probably 10 non-chain places I like better around Indianapolis.

Donatos, I think works pretty well for our parties.

OK, here is my list of 10 non-chain pizza places I like better than Donatos.
Bazbeaux - my favorite - I judge all other places against Bazbeaux
    Some Guys
    Puchini's
    Cool River - Noblesville/Carmel
    Good Fellas - Carmel
Monicals - although this might be a chain
    Union Jacks
    Nancys - Fishers
    WB
Mellow Mushroom - this might be a chain -
    - can't think of the name of it it is near 96th and Meridian Red Tomato or something tomato

Really though if every pizza place in the world closed down except Bazbeaux - I'd still be happy

And I'm not even mentiong pizza at italian restuarants

I've never had Mother Bear's, but if it can be mentioned with Bazbeaux's it is worth a shot to try some day. My favorite Noble Romans was near the square in Zionsville.

There used to be a Mother Bear's near 71th and Binford (hwy 37) and I thought it was decent. Although some people raved about it. Is this the same Mother Bear's.

I like Hot Box Pizza better than Donatos - forgot about them. Their thin and cripy is excellent if you ask me.

I think I eat too much pizza - although I haven't had Pizza Hut, Dominos, or Pap Johns - I think in about 5 years.

    Jacks is good also
