I'm looking to go to school in the Indianapolis area and that would be my top choice. A nice cafeteria is a good start.

It depends on what you want to do. I recommend taking a tour or speaking with an advisor to make sure that U of I is right for you.

That sounds good, but unfortunately I have no idea on what U of I's specialty is.

Actually I am still paying for my Son's tenure at the UofI, ironically he was a communications major.

It is a very nice school with a smaller student to teacher ratio so they are more accessible to you than some of the larger University's.

As far as the com. majors go they have a pretty extensive list of internships that you can go to for networking with people and gaining experiance in the field. Also they have a lot of guest lecturers come in from the local tv news stations.

It's clean and safe so that is a big plus as well.

The only thing that I think that some people would complain bitterly about is that there is a lack of "college life" there. Don't get me wrong I'm sure it happens but it doesn't seem like there are any "wild houses" or anything. Nothing compared to other major University's. However if you are there to go to school and not just partake of the party life it should be fine.

Class of '76 alum here. Ok, it took me 8 years to graduate night school.

It is expensive. It has very good communications, nursing, and Phys. Therapy programs. They have an up and coming Vocal Music dept which recruited my son heavily. But it is very small. THe campus is split by Hanna Avenue which is a 4 lane major city street.

My neice went there for her Freshman year and then transferred to Purdue out of boredom. The lack of social life was a killer for her and she is not a party girl. She had attended a very small country school and thought a smaller school was for her, but was wrong.

I like it but if I were choosing today I would be looking at more than just the one so I have options.

I don't know a ton about the school to be honest with you. One of my cousins who I rarely talk to goes there and I think he does physical therapy.

It seems really expensive for what it is. It seems like IU and Purdue have names that are just as good if not better and you could go there for much less. I dunno though, maybe it is a better school than what my perception of it is.

So mostly there's not too much fun going on there? It's more for learning and staying on schedule?

That seems to be about right. They have scheduled activities there, so don't think its like going a technical college like IVY tech or something. They have sports teams and they have scheduled concerts and all.

But since it is a private university and as Geezer pointed out it is kind of expensive, I think the people that attend are generally more apt to trying to get their money's worth.

Lots of good looking women there even more than the average university is what I'll add. At least it seemed to me when I visited.

TM3, If I may ask, your location says you live in Long Island, NY, so why do you want to go to U of I or Ivy Tech? You don't seem to know that much about either school, so I'm just wondering what makes you want to look at them?

Honestly, if I was going to go to an Indy school it would probably be IUPUI or Butler.

I'm looking into an affordable 4 year school in the Indianapolis area. I like U of I's campass and IVY's campass and the classes they offer. IUPUI is another school I like.

I don't understand what draws you to Indianapolis in the first place. I mean like the city and find it a fine place, but you live in New York.

How much time have you spent in Indy? Honestly it isn't a bad city at all but it is much smaller than the big east coast cities and I know very few people on the east coast who are thrilled with Indianapolis. They kind of just see it as this rinky dink little place. Now I love Indianapolis and will defend my home till the end but you should know what you are getting in to. Again, I love my city but there are more schools/jobs/opportunities/cultural stuff/hustle bustle on the East Coast and I could see Indy being a bit of a culture shock for someone moving from the NYC area.

Also, if you are fixated on Indy definitely look at Butler and IUPUI. IUPUI is right by the heart of downtown and everything is walkable around there, which is really nice and rare in the Indianapolis area. Butler is in a really cool neighborhood that is pretty walkable, too. Butler is expensive if I remember correctly but you do offer them some regional diversity and may be able to get scholarships so it is worth applying and seeing what the heck happens. Being a technical school Ivy Tech is going to have no campus culture whatsoever and UIndy is in a very sleepy area on the southside, which is just sort of a ho hum boring extension of Greenwood to me.

I like an easy going warm hearted, welcoming environment and to me that's what Indianapolis is. I have a lot of colleges I like in the Indianapolis area and also some colleges that are appealing to me here in NY. I appreciate the help dcpacersfan.
