Eh, you lose at home in a crappy conference in the championship game you don't deserve much higher than an 8 or a 9.

I disagree with your statement. That Crappy team went into New York and beat Syracuse. They also beat that crappy team twice in the regular season. Butler played a very decent schedule (pre-conference) They have wins against Xavier, UAB, & Davidson. It is not Butler's fault they play in an overall weak conference.
UAB and Davidson are OK wins, but not great. Xavier is a really good win.

I'm just saying I don't think Butler can really complain about a 8 seed. The highest they might have deserved is a 7 and whats the real difference between that and an 8?

While it isn't Butler's fault they play in an overall weak conference, it is their fault they lost at home in their conference tournament. Davidson lost in a similar situation and didn't even make the tourney. I basically think you can view that BUtler vs. Davidson game as a play out game. The loser wouldn't have made the dance if they both didn't win their tourneys.

One thing the conference tournament season has shown this year is that the chase for the money they bring makes the regular season irrelevent for many teams. Miss. State, Cleveland State, Maryland, and a couple of others all get in or better seeds because they get hot. Butler gets penalized for losing in the championship game when NC, Conn., and Pitt don't? Heck, Arizona didn't even win a game in thier tour. and still made it in. Are the leagues really making that much more money to minimalize their seasons, especially the mid-majors?

Sycamore Ken. I think Arizona got in because they have big name players with Jordan Hill (maybe the number one pick) & Chase Budinger.

And I think St. Mary's would beat them like a rented mule.

Well, unless their game is in Arizona you better watch quickly based on their track record this year.

One thing I will say is that the tournaments is wide open and filled with quality teams this year. You could see things shake out by seed, or TONS of upsets. I have Louisville over Duke as the champ in my bracket, but there are seriously about 10 teams that have a legit shot at winning it.

I have Michigan State, Memphis, North Carolina, and Pittsburgh in my Final Four, with Memphis winning it all. They may be better than last year, and that team did pretty darn well. This should be another great tournament. I've got all my vacation time in and I'm ready for my couch. Bring it on.

Memphis just squeaked by Cal State-Northridge. They really need to get out of Conference USA if they want to have year in year out tournament success.

A&M was more athletic than BYU and LSU was more athletic than Butler. So far, athleticism is trumping disciplined play in this tournament. That usually does not bode well for typical upset teams.

They don't have an opponent to give them trouble this year but IMO Connecticut is one of the most vulnerable 1 seeds ever.

Butler lost but it was a very good game. That Thorton kid on LSU played well. Is he related to the Thorton that played with Artest on St. Johns? The team that schooled IU back in 1999. I think Butler showed they deserved to be in the tourney. Matt Howard/G Hayward should both declare for the NBA draft but not hire an agent. They both would drastically improve playing against better competition this summer. I believe they both have a legit shot at playing pro ball in the NBA or overseas.

Howard is really undersized. He's just so fundamentally sound. He gets great position and really locks his man on the backside. Most of the time he gets a big advantage because he sets his man up. He allows them to deny the entry pass and/or front him, then he just buries into the position and when the ball swings to the other wing there's no defense in position to even contest his layup.

I doubt he'll be able to do that against guys that are not only bigger but phsyically a lot stronger. He is pure hustle, that's for sure.

I watched him play in HS when Connersville played at Winchester. He completely dominated the game, but his numbers were modest. He's a very special player, and it's great to see him performing on the big stage as a soph. I just don't see as athletic enough to make it in the league.

EDIT: Oh, and I don't think I've ever saw a player with better hands on the defense end than Chris Kramer. Defensively, I don't think it's possible to expect anymore than what he does. If there's a better on ball defender in the nation, I would be surprised and would like to see it. His combination of strength, hands, lateral quickness, IQ, and determination are something special to watch.

Yeah, Howard is fundamentally an incredible basketball player, but I just think he is way too small.

Hayward, OTOH, can be a truly special player at the NBA level I think.

My wife and her very scientific method of filling out her bracket, decided that she liked the word Chattanooga and put them in her Sweet 16. She also really likes Bulldogs, and put Butler in her Final Four. She has already gotten about 15 e-mails saying thanks for the donation.

I went 15 for 16 today. I picked WKU over Illinois. Only loss was Minnesota to Texas. Not too bad though cause I had Minnesota out the next round. Lead my pool currently too.

The Big Ten is 2-2 after the first day. Purdue and Michigan advance while Minnesota and Illinois fall.
