Default Former Pacer Artest talks trash to Kobe and gets smashed

Last Wednesday when the Lakers visited the Rockets, former Pacer Ron Artest (remember him?) tried to get in Kobe's head and engage the reigning NBA MVP in a little trash-talk. Artest, the self-proclaimed best defender in the NBA was probably looking for other ways to stop Bryant as the Laker guard dropped 37 points on him,18 in the 4th quarter, en-route to the Lakers' 102-96 win over the Rockets.

I miss Artest's on the ball defense. Not the greatest help defender, can have difficulty with a good screen, but on the ball, he lives up to his self-proclaimed hype. He was particularly excellent at denying the ball.

There were a whole lot of Pacers games where Artest would match up with Paul Pierce or Vince Carter or some other star level scorer and win the matchup. He took 5 points and 10 percentage points from a bunch of scorers.

He does play Kobe well, but I'm not sure why he's tugging on Superman's cape. Any given night, if Kobe's hitting his jumper from deep, he can't really be guarded.

I don't know why in God's name the Rockets didn't put Battier on Kobe. He's a better defender.

And he's smart enough not to talk **** to Kobe.

I like Kobe more and more every year.

"I'm surprised the officials are allowing this." Will that announcer please shut the **** up. These guys are also entertainers and I think that is sort of what was going on there. I guess you never know with Artest though.

Ron Artest is smart enough to not pick fights with teammates, to not ask for time off to pursue a career in the music business, and to not run into the stands and attack the wrong guy.
