Default iPhone OS 3.0 Demo Today

    http://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/0...-on-march-17th

iPhone users need to set aside March 17th as that's the date Apple will take the cover off of iPhone OS 3. Not very much is known at this point as Apple has a good track record of keeping things under wraps until the last moment.

iPhone OS 3 will usher in another era for Apple and its phenomenal iPhone. Hopefully in this update we may see copy and paste, flash, and native video recording on the iPhone. Add in those new features and Apple may have the most robust phone on the market today.

x.0 releases of Apple's iPhone OS software have arrived alongside a new hardware version of the iPhone, with the iPhone 3G signalling the release of the iPhone OS 2.0, itself bringing Apps to all iPhone users. If previous rumours are to be believed, OS 3.0 may include quad-core processor support, but the more likely killer feature (which hasn't been seen since it missed its supposed September release) could be Push Notifications, enabling developers to send out alerts to users even if an app isn't running. The other question that remains to be answered is how long will Apple support its older iPhone models before saying "no more updates"?

Neowin staffer Michael Brown contributed to this report.
Wow, already? I'm still waiting for 2.1.2

I hoping for MMS, teathering, and copy/paste capabilities.

Well, like I commented in the first post, I really want full MMS capabilities. I find it quite ridiculous that of all phones, the iPhone cannot send and receive picture messages like any other cell phone. I just wonder if that is at&t's doing, and not Apple's.

FINALLY! How hard could this have been considering you could do it all along using iphone's safari?

OK, for lack of time and all, can someone tell me if this will be something you can download on a current iPhone, or is this a new one you'll have to buy?

I just bought mine not but a month ago. I'd reaaaaly like some of these things on mine without having to shell out for another one.

It's a free upgrade for iPhone users. $9.95 to buy if you're using an iPod Touch.

Sorry, I usually look things up myself but with a job interview in the morning and just getting home from the gym, I'm kinda in a hurry. Hoping I would get out of the shower and have an answer. Thank you!

I have yet to even hook my iPhone up to my PC yet. lol

My contract with Helio runs out in the Fall, and the addition of MMS pretty much makes the iPhone a slam dunk for me, unless something crazy happens between now and then.

I was going to get a new iPhone. However, since I already own a 3G, that means I'm supposed to pay an additional $200 and wait until April of 2010 to get it.

Looks like it's the 3.0 software only for me!

I tried seeing if I was elligible for the early upgrade. They want $399 out of me. I will wait until I'm halfway through my contract if I'm that concerned about video and a compass.

The extra is in addition to the price of the phone, obviously. My bill is 50 for two lines. If it isn't 80 bucks a month for the data plan, how much is it?

On a note of interesting timing, I think my iPod was stolen.

I may be able to splurge for a $99 iPhone, but only if I'm not required to put down a deposit or anything like that. My funds are very low at the moment.

I think he's referring to the data plan plus normal monthly charges, which runs closer to $80+, doesn't it?

    I'm not sure...but oh well.

    My plan:

900 anytime minutes with Rollover, unlimited nights and weekends
    iPhone data plan
    unlimited text messaging

I pay around $100 a month after taxes and fees. I got the 900 minute plan because I use my phone for work, which I get a reimbursement for.. I get a discount on my service and data plan for showing them I worked at a college (at one point).

There are cheaper rate plans available with less minutes, rollover and so on.

Plus, the Rollover minutes are great. I have accumulated enough rollover minutes to not worry about going over my quota for the rest of the year.

About the college discount, how do I claim that? I haven't found any info about that anywhere. Does it only apply if you worked at a college, or does it also apply to standard students/alumni?

You have to go into an at&t store and show them an enrollment form, or some other kind of document that you are an employee, current student or alumni. In January, all I did was show them a check stub, which was from last summer. I quit working there in November...lmao.

I'm sure there is a way you can "phone it in".

If you are seriously considering getting an iPhone, I'd do it at an at&t store. They will take your old phone and get your contacts and whatever off it and put it on your iPhone. Plus, it's faster than ordering it online.
