I'm glad to hear it. I was surprised when it appeared earlier this week that he was leaving. Didn't make any sense.

I'm pretty happy as Jeff will keep the rest of the O-line out of trouble. And yes I mean off the field. The man takes being a big brother to a new level with the younguns.

While locking up Saturday, the Colts will allow seven other veterans to become unrestricted free agents: running back Dominic Rhodes, punter Hunter Smith, linebacker Tyjuan Hagler, defensive linemen Darrell Reid and Josh Thomas, cornerback Keiwan Ratliff and safety Matt Giordano.
I'd like to see all these guys back in blue, but I'm sure we won't. Rhodes and Hagler should be priority, and I'd like to see Giordano come back as well.

I don't want to pay to see Hagler on the injured list all year, and I never thought Thomas was very good. I think if Giordano or Ratliff can be brought for cheap, then it's worth doing. Same for Rhodes/Smith.

I thought Jeff wanted to play for Pittsburgh?

    Glad we signed him, though.

I don't know if he wanted to play for Pittsburgh. It certainly was in icky rumor. I'm glad it wasn't true.

Great news. It is still going to take a while before our newer guy can take over. It gives him more learning time.

I really hope this is a smart move for the Colts. Jeff isn't old, but he has been injured a few times since last September.

Now we need to get a good group of guys around him to keep down with the offensive penalties.

Ugoh's got this year to prove he isn't subpar. I don't think he's played particularly great, though he was injured a bit this year.

Jeff was just bluffing when he said he wanted to play in Pittsburgh. He's a Colt forever.

    Awesome news.

I agree. This will be his third year so we gotta see some production. It just sucks that Tarik didn't stay around and help him develop That woulda been huge.

I'd guess Dominic Rhodes is about the only guy left they'd bring back.

They kept Silva around all season for a reason, and there's no point in paying Giordano even a minimum contract since he's been around a bit. If you want a fifth safety, find a rookie for $400K less.

It seems they're washing their hands of the linebackers, considering they didn't tender Keiaho a contract as a restricted free agent. Wheeler, Brackett and Session are sure things, but who knows after that. I assume a draft pick will be spent there to hone the next guy.

I imagine they'll get priced out of Darrell Reid and Keiwan Ratliff, especially Ratliff since they already have Jackson, Hayden, Jennings, Hughes and maybe a healthy Rushing.

Josh Thomas isn't worth the minimum for a guy of his experience. Again, just get a rookie to play that role.

    Hunter Smith sucks.

Matt Giordano would be good keeping around. the guy is quick on special teams.

Well, nice to see the Colts aren't going with the "we have a QB who can pull games out of his butt so it's OK if our lines get whipped on both sides of the ball" strategy.

I'll be very surprised if another team outbids the Colts for Dom's services. If it's close he'll pick Indy easily over another team. He was so happy to be back with the Colts it can't be understated. Not because of a winning/losing record, but his ego was stoked so much by Colt fans appreciation.

Hopefully Hunter can come back at a lower cost. I don't see Dom going anywhere.

Hunter is a really nice guy but making way too much at least for the last season's performance. I prefer a punter who at least aims toward the sideline. However he might have been told to kick it down the middle and high hoping coverage could pin someone deep by Pernell. Guess we'll see now that we have a new chief on special teams.

Maybe I should've just said that instead.

He didn't hit big punts when they were really necessary last season.

I agree. You can just tell that Saturday really has adopted Indianapolis as his home town. He loves the city and loves being a Colt. He obviously wants to get paid his fair share, but you can tell that he has a soft side for the city and that his decision doesn't just come down to numbers unlike some players.
