Default The next horrible Hollywood adaptation of a cartoon classic

A live-action Jonny Quest, with Zac Efron (High School Musical) as Jonny and Dwayne "Don't call me The Rock" Johnson as Race Bannon.

To be fair, The Rock, I mean, Dwayne, could probably do a serviceable job of playing Race (although I would rather see him play Brock Sampson, complete with flowing blonde locks) but do not worry, there's a train wreck comin' round the bend.

    Here's another one...

Okay, maybe I wouldn't call it a "classic" cartoon, but it was one of my favorites growing up.

Agreed. I am very hesitant to see how this is going to work out.

Add that with the street fighter movie coming out. I hope they don't butcher these, though I'm not raising my hopes. Speed Racer was bad
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

Geezus!! With all the great scripts floating around Hollywood, they keep sunking their money in dumber and dumber projects. Why doa live action when the Venture Brothers are the final word in ANY kind of Johnny Quest remake?

I'm already cringing at the thought of what Will Farrell is going to do to the Land of the Lost.
Hey! What're you kicking me for? You want me to ask? All right, I'll ask! Ma'am, where do the high school girls hang out in this town?

At least I know they won't do a live action Rocko's Modern Life. Thank Jebus!

Speed Racer was an awful movie because it was derived from an awful cartoon.

    Same-to-be with Johnny Quest.

I'm expecting Dragonball to suck dragonballs, but I plan to see it anyway. Same with the new Street Fighter flick.

Yeah, after talking about it with my brother, I'm looking forward to DragonBall.

I borrowed all his DBZ box sets today.

No, NPH is far too busy doing awesome things to watch lame cartoons that are lame.

I think Jonny Quest may be a generational thing. If you were a kid in the {ahem} early seventies (or late sixties for that matter) there was nothing like Jonny Quest as far as cartoons went. The high production values (since it was originally a primetime series,) relatively mature storylines and violence made it really cool for its time. For those growing in the nineties or beyond, it probably doesn't make that much of an impression (especially the later remakes.)

One thing I didn't realize until just now is that Tim Matheson was the voice of Jonny Quest in the original series. Matheson later went on to be Otter in Animal House and played many other roles, including one in The West Wing and of course his role as the heel in Fletch. Strangely, he also bought National Lampoon magazine in 1989 hoping to reverse its decline, but ended up selling it a couple of years later. Too bad; I miss National Lampoon.

Man, you are so right about JQ. It was pretty cutting edge back then and I was a HUGE fan. Matter-of-fact, believe it or not, I just re-watched the one with the giant walking black orb with the single eye that they show in the opening credits with the evil Dr. Syn. I STILL like watching old Johnny Quests. Maybe it is generational, but there's a reason the original quest has stood the test of time.

BTW, I just watched Speed Racer last night. Visually, I LOVED it. Too bad they didn't spend a little time on the characters. I didn't hate the movie, but they really blew a great opportunity. Really blew it.

I was an eighties kid, and Johnny Quest always just bored the hell outta me.

And Speed Racer was just dumb. It's like a B-level horror flick; it's fun to watch, but only to poke fun at it.

I was an eighties guy as well, but I still enjoyed the series. The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest was more interesting to me than the original series.

And NPH doesn't have anything better to do.

That hurts. NPH is too baked to do anything. And JQ continues rock.

Hadji better be played by Kal Penn. The Rock and Kal Penn together would be worth watching.

I can't stand to look at Zac Efron, so, let's hope that changes.

I never got into Quest. I like Speed Racer, but I've always been really into cars.

I wonder if they'll ever do a live adaptation of Ace and Gary from SNL?

I'm still waiting for Hekle and Jekle. I'm too lazy to see if those are spelled correctly.
