Default MRI reveals bone chip in Oden's left knee

Greg Oden had an MRI on Saturday that revealed a bone chip in his left knee.

The Portland center banged the left knee against Golden Stateís Corey Maggette in the Blazersí 105-98 loss Thursday and sat out the Rookie Challenge game Friday at NBA All-Star Weekend in Phoenix.

Oden, the 2006 Indianapolis Star Indiana Mr. Basketball out of Lawrence North, missed the 2007-08 NBA season after surgery on his right knee.

After the Rookie Challenge game, Oden said he likely would have played if it were a regular-season game.

Oden is averaging nine points and 7.2 rebounds for the Blazers, who entered the All-Star break in fourth place in the Western Conference.

The No. 1 pick in the 2007 draft is scheduled to return to Portland on Tuesday.

This latest setback comes as 7-foot center was starting to find some rhythm with five double doubles the past 12 games.

Call Star reporter Jeff Rabjohns at (317) 444-6183.

    Durant is no Jordan though.

    Or so Portland hopes.

Portland just hopes that Oden has a longer career then "Sam Bowie".

Portland should never draft a big man.

Regardless Portland still has a good team without Oden anyways while Durant is stuck in OKC until his contract is up.

OKC has Green, Durant, Westbrook and a high lottery pick this year. They'll be all right.

I thought then at the 07 draft Durant was the better player, and I still do. Obviously, Portland thought differently.

    Is Oden another injured Miles?

It would be hard to beat Jordan's competitiveness....but Durant has the tools to be a better offensive player than Jordan. I know it's hard to imagine...but he's 20 years old shooting 43% from 3...a better percentage than Michael ever averaged. Durant is simply a more gifted shooter. 43% from 3 translates to nearly 65% from the floor.

...and Michael wasn't even in the NBA at Durant's current age. It's hard to say how Durant will turn out, but in the end it will depend on how hard he works at his game. He certainly is more physically gifted to put the ball in the basket...maybe moreso than any NBA player I have ever seen.

And they're still a cellar dweller in OKC. If they stayed in Seattle that may be different.

That makes no sense to me... Help me out here. Why does the city matter to how they assemble talent?
Sam Presti was the same GM when the team was in Seattle.

Because God is punishing them for what they have done.

He has the tools to be (and is) a better SHOOTER than Jordan. Lots of players accomplish that in their career though. Better offensive player though? No.

Does Greg Oden have a nickname yet? If not, might I suggest "Mr. Glass"?

Well, God has an awful long list in the NBA alone...

    Sacramento (moved from KC/Omaha)
    Golden State (moved from Phila)
    LA Lakers (moved from Minn.)
LA Clippers (moved from San Diego)
    Memphis (moved from Vancouver)
    New Orleans (moved from Charlotte)
    Detroit (Moved From Ft. Wayne)
    Atlanta (Moved from St. Louis)
Salt Lake City (moved from New Orleans)
Philadelphia (moved from Syracuse, New York)

Thats right off the top of my head not counting 3 of the 4 ABA teams that shuffled in the time of the ABA...

Don't forget about the Houston Rockets who were the San Diego Rockets. I'd say fate has treated them pretty good since arriving in Houston.

Interesting note: Of the teams you listed, the 76ers are the ONLY TEAM to change their name upon moving to a new city. This is what blows me away when people moan that the Colts should have given the name back to Baltimore, as if every sports team changes names when moving. As this shows, it's far more common to keep the old name than come up with a new one, even if the old name has nothing to do with the new city.

Some of the most classic franchises in sports (Lakers, Dodgers, Pistons, Colts) are playing with team names that didn't originate in the current city.

Of course, the Clippers moved to San Diego from Buffalo, where they were the Braves.

The Hawks were in Milwaukee before they went to St. Louis, but they actually began life as the Tri-Cities Blackhawks, with the Tri-Cities being Rockford, IL, Moline, IL, & Davenport, IA.

Finally, prior to Kansas City/Omaha, the Kings were the Cincinnati Royals, and had begun their existence as the Rochester (NY) Royals.

    Utah Jazz...

And you wonder why teams should consider a new name and identity when they go to a new town...

    Greg Oden-
Sounds like Oden is lucky he made it thru his required 1 year of college without enough of an injury concern to derail his NBA career or let Durant (and others) leapfrog him. ...I realize he was injured in college too but he was able to play much of the season...

I've said it before and I'll say it again... I love the fact that another Bender situation can't happen from a fan's POV (raw HS player jumping to pros and teams wasting picks on players that are too far from ready and don't pan out) but if I was a player coming out of HS with all NBA eyes upon me I'd be heading to court to fight that exclusion.
Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.

    ------

"A player who makes a team great is more valuable than a great player. Losing yourself in the group, for the good of the group, thatís teamwork."

Back on topic... I think he has all the potential for being very good but I'm not sure if Oden will ever reach it because of his knees, feet, ankles, ect. Here's hoping he can get to the point where he can consistently play without missing 30 games or more a season.

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.
