Default Portland Backs Off Amare, Looking For Elite Point Guard?

The trade talks between the Phoenix Suns and Portland Trail Blazers about Amar'e Stoudemire have fallen apart, CBSSports.com has learned.

The deal Portland was discussing with Phoenix involved LaMarcus Aldridge, Jerryd Bayless, and Raef LaFrentz's $12.7 million expiring contract. "That deal is dead," the person familiar with the talks said. One reason could be that Portland is really looking to acquire an elite point guard, according to an NBA team executive.

Guess this will take Miami out of the picture also. This could possibly be why we were going after Felton, and possibly trying to move Ford to PHX.

Who knows, it is a possibility

I put a trade proposal in the trade proposal thread area http://www.pacersdigest.com/apache2-...282#post850282. Its pretty big trade involving 3 teams.

    But they have Bayless already.

    Bite me Shade.

But seriously, my point all year with Bayless has been this - Portland's own view of him. Something is wrong there when you see how they value him, how they play him, what type of player they are looking for now, and the fact that his name got mentioned for this prior trade.

There's just a lot of indication than they don't see him as a big HR PG prospect. Naturally they could be really wrong. I'm just saying it's odd and suspicious. Seems like something is up behind the scenes on that one.

I got excited for a moment.

At first glance, I thought Portland was rumored to be looking for an idiot point guard.

It's Portland looking for the "elite point guard", not Phoenix. I doubt they'll get it, as there's few elite point guards in the league, and the lucky teams that have one are unlikely to give them up. T.J.'s probably the highest quality they could get. Maybe a three-way deal could be worked out....

No way Portland takes TJ over Felton. Felton has more opportunities. Like no resigning, playing the two. Allowing Roy to bring the ball up.

Who, besides a very select few, isn't looking for an "elite" point guard?

That was worse than groan inducing. Mods, can we put count on some kind of probation or something?

By ELITE, they mean Deron Williams, or someone at that level. Not TJ Ford, or Felton.

And as far as backing off this trade for Stoudamire, obviously Portland came to realize that they'd be trading away a future superstar in Bayless. Thank goodness they came to their senses.

At what point, exactly, did I say that Bayless is currently an elite point guard?

Could Rush being involved in trade talks to Charlotte mean that Bird already regrets getting him? Because, y'know, that rationalization works both ways.

I was going to ask for a show of hands to see how many people understood what he was talking about. I guess there's more old people on there than I thought.

Portland is bein a little rediculous if u ask me. They have an elite wing in Roy, a future elite defensive big in Oden, a potential elite big in Aldridge, and a solid as heck pg in steve blake. Lets give em ford for blake id be down any day.

To keep the thread legal: http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/e...38893/13535220

As for Portland's part in the trade wasn't said in another thread that it was probably more a case of Phoenix saying what they wanted and Portland saying no thank you.

To be fair.....although it does appear that BRush was included in the Trade rumors, there is nothing to indicate that Bird himself wanted to move him. It would make more sense that the Bobcats were the ones asking for him ( a player that would fit Brown's defense and plays a position of need ) to be included in the deal.

But of course, the same could be said for any potential Amare to Portland deal.....it would make sense that the Suns were asking for Bayless and the Blazers weren't inclined to include him as well.

They would be far more inclined to include Bayless than LaMarcus Aldridge.

I don't think Shade was making the case that Rush was being shopped. I think he was responding in kind to Seth's potshot about Bayless.

It would take Roy + another attractive piece to get Utah to budge with Williams. Of course, with the Bayless comment, we can safely conclude that you're living in your own little fantasy land, so I'm sure Sergio Rodriguez + Raef LaFrentz would be enough in your mind.

Getting rid of Aldridge would have been the mistake, not Bayless. I think Bayless, at his best, has the potential to be as good as Ben Gordon. An undersized shooting guard that has to sign 1 year deals because he's not worth as much as he thinks.
