Default Hope in Last Place (Wages of Wins article)

A few days ago the blog Wages of Wins Journal had an interesting topic about the Pacers...

    Below is an excerpt.

If we look over this roster we see that Troy Murphy, Jeff Foster, and T.J. Ford all post WP48 marks beyond what we see from Granger. And if we look at last year’s numbers, we see that Mike Dunleavy - who just returned from injury - is also capable of putting up numbers beyond what we see from Granger.
After 152 minutes, though, Dunleavy hasn’t yet returned to the form we saw last year. If he does, though, it’s quite possible that the Pacers will make the teams ranked ahead of Indiana sweat a bit. Although it’s unlikely given the Pacers current record of 15-25 that Indiana can finish in the playoffs, there’s certainly hope heading into next season.

Next season Indiana - like the Wizards - could field a starting line-up that consists entirely of above average players (Ford, Dunleavy, Granger, Murphy, Foster). And that line-up - if on the court the entire season - could contend for the playoffs in 2009-10.

this Wages of Win's stat rating doesn't take into account Clutchness of a player. When you need a basket none of the 4 players mention on the pacers with a possible exception to Dunleavy can get you basket when you absolutely need one. Also don't forget that the Pacers are 4th in rebounding, so Grangers below average rebounding and steals aren't really hurting the team. Your never going to see any of the other players consistently put up 25 a game.

    What's WP48?
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

Wins produced per 48. But how do they figure it? You could follow this link:

    But it is wicked complicated.

Wow, a lineup of above average players! That is some buzz marketing right there.

In fact we have our 2009-2010 slogan, "Your 2009-2010 Indiana Pacers: Above Average."

Tj's clutch and Troy has hit some big threes (including a tip in off a granger miss to win a game against the lakers.) Granger has won more games then all 4 this year, but saying those four are un-clutch is like saying Dwayne Wade can't score out of a double team.

    Foster isn't clutch.

He's more of a pants pooper as JayRedd so eloquently put it,

It was a Quis miss, not Granger.
