Wow, they didn't give him much time. They can't seem to keep a coach there.

I'm more surprised by this one than any of the others.

I liked him a lot. Thought he would of been a decent choice. Looks like the Grizz didn't give him a chance to develop that young team.

That makes no sense unless they have someone else waiting to come in to develope the team. Are there any big names floating around? That team seemed to be improving.

John Calipari? Wouldn't surprise me. The town loves him, he loves the town. He's already paying his players anyway.

    First out-of-work coach I'd consider over O'Brien.
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

I think they are very similar, actually. I don't think it would be an upgrade.

Could we hire him as an assistant, even if it was just til the end of the year?

It's not really Macaroni's fault that they gave away their franchise player for practically free.

Having a bad record with the team is bad enough, but when you are known as an offensive specialist type of coach and your guys are 29th in the league in that department, something has to give.

The Pacers already have one. An offensive coach with a bad record!

Read what I wrote again, only go back and get the whole quote this time. What I'm saying is that Iavaroni's team should at least be scoring, but they are 29th in the league. JOB is an offensive specialist, but the Pacers are 4th in the league in scoring, so they are doing what JOB does best. One more time just to be clear...WHEN YOU ARE KNOWN AS AN OFFENSIVE COACH AND YOUR TEAM ISN'T SCORING YOU ARE GONNA GET FIRED.

Isn't the "offensive coach" thing a bit of a misnomer? I mean, sure, he worked for D'Antoni, but didn't he also work for Riley?

Dick Harter was the worst coach in Hornets history. There is a reason why he is only an assistant coach. Ivaroni will follow suit. He will always be a great assistant. He does not have the presence, nor the command to be a successful head coach.

Yes I did. And he isn't an offensive coach, he is a defensive coach - at least that is what he did with the Suns - he learned under Pat Riley and was very highly thought of prior to getting the Grizz job

Actually Marc was part of the Pau trade.

I know what you said and how you said it. My comment was directed towards how I feel about O'Brien. The end results are the same.... an offensive coach whose team has a bad record no matter if the are 29th or 4th in scoring. I'm expressing my feeling of not needing another one as a Pacer coach. One offensive coach with a bad record is MORE than enough.

Memphis is a free agent signing away from being very good. I like several players on the roster Mayo & Gay are both very solid.

But he is not an offensive coach.
However, it didn't quite work out for Iavaroni, who was a staunch defensive coach with an inexperienced team. Ironically, he had a background as an assistant with Mike D'Antoni's run-and-gun teams in Phoenix for five seasons.
