Default Lack of "Home Run" last night

This may be something silly that I noticed last night, but it actually kind of upset me in a way. Reb last night kept saying things other than "Home Run" after Pacers 3's (He did say home run two or three times). Does anyone know if there was a reason for this?

I heard him say: "Danny Granger! TEAMPLAYER!"

I think it may be time to find a new announcer. -_-

yeah, I did notice this. Reb just needs to stick with Homerun. We remember last year with Quise for "threesie" and "Trey" Murphy.

No, he didn't say, "Danny Granger! TeamPlayer" He said, "Three Pointer".

As for Reb, he is a tradition in this franchise that goes clean back to the ABADays. He does a fine job. I know, he is not like the guy down in Orlando or Charlotte with the "echo" machine.

I love Reb Porter. He is a staple of the Pacers. It will be a sad day when he is no longer announcing games.

Reb Porter is definately a strong PA announcer! I worked with Reb at WIFE Radio back in the late 60s, when he was a DJ and I was their sports director covering the Pacers. My air name was Ron Jackson. Anybody on here remember those days, with Reb Porter, Jay Reynolds, Ron Hoefer, and the WIFE Goodguys?

I kept yelling "HOMERUN" after he made his calls. Ms. Dukie and I were getting very upset.

I tried to say it with him, but most of the time it was just "Threeeee!!!" followed closely by my "Home Run!"

I said it when it was supposed to happen, then after when the 'House silenced, out of anger I yelled "homerun!!!" As in like, "WTF SAY IT!"

Well, there was that thread with a couple of people complaining about the 'Homerun' calls... and just before this game too.

Apparently Reb tried to please everyone and ended up pleasing no one.

Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.

Funny thing... During the game, Shade and I were discussing if it was possible that the lack of "home run" was Digest related.

I'm currently reading "Loose Balls" and understand more then ever why it is called the "Home Run" ball. IMO, breaking this is like turning a blind eye to the history of this franchise.

I am sorry to say that I do not remember the early Pacer days (late 60's). I was too young to remember the late 60's though I was going to games with my parents. My 1st memories were of the '72 team.
I have a question...did they record the game broadcasts back then? If so who would have those? The station or the team? I believe the station is long gone. I would love to hear some old game audio from back in the day.

I don't particularly like Reb Porter, think he's a bit outdated. The Nets PA announcer is probably my favorite and the Warriors my least favorite.

Doesn't that fit with the whole Conseco classic look though?

I was that guy that complained about the "Home Run" in a post game thread last year, and got lambasted. I still think it is goofy. Always have. I like Reb, but there's something about the old that makes the crowd seem cold. However, most seem to like it, so screw me and keep the Home Runs going. We need all the tradition we can get.

Mark Boyle was on Dan Dakich show Wedneday and they were discusing things they didn't like that announcers said and Mark was pretty strong in his dislike of Homerun for a three pointer

Boo. That is why he is the radio announcer, and not the PA. I have a ton of respect for Mark, but "HomeRun" should stay.

Remember those days, and names, well. WIFE, Lucky 13, and the Window on the World on Meridian Street. Reb Porter, of course, was air-named Reb "The Rebel" Porter. His voice now sounds the same as then. My fave DJ was Joe Light. He was the best. When the British Invasion hit, Joe referred to the Rolling Stones as the Rolling Uglies. Now, the Stones, IMO, are the greatest band ever, but I still call them the Rolling Uglies. Thanks Joe.

Count me in the "doesn't like 'Home Run!'" crowd. I find it annoying every time.

My mom worked at WIFE back in those days.

I have a ton of respect for Reb Porter, but he should adhere to the phrase above your avatar when deciding what sort of phrases to use when he's announcing.

I think Home Run is great. It's our thing, I always find it to be on the same level as an inside joke, in the sense that those in the community get it and it is meaningful to us. I much rather have a silly phrase that is unique to our community of fans than have something that is just generic sounding.

I've never been able to duplicate Boom Baby like Slick does it, probably because I can't make it all one word like he does.
