I agree. There has been too much talk about him from other coaches for him NOT to be a reserve.

It would be a travesty if he didn't make the team.

The all-star game means nothing to me. I just don't understand what the big deal is. If a player needs this for his confidence or something, he shouldn't. I guess for those fans that watch the game, they enjoy seeing the homies. I think it causes problems in the locker room to have players on the team openly campaining to make the "all stars". For me, I'd rather see all of our players get a well deserved, mid-season rest. Let some other teams get their players injured in an exibition game showing off.

I agree if Yi doesn't get voted in (how close is he I have no idea really) then Granger probably makes it in as 12th man this year.

Howard maintains sizable lead in All-Star voting

NEW YORK (SI.com) -- The rosters for the 58th NBA All-Star game are beginning to take shape following the third balloting returns.
Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard and Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant continue to lead the voting for their respective conferences, the league announced Thursday.
The defending slam dunk champion, Howard leads all comers with 1,709,088 votes and is running away with the starting center spot on the Eastern Conference squad.
Cleveland's LeBron James (1,521,272) and Boston's Kevin Garnett (1,101,541) are the top forwards for the East. Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade (1,473,225) is tops among Eastern Conference guards.
Bryant (1,534,020), the reigning league MVP, is the clear leader out West. Houston's Tracy McGrady (961,852) will join him in the backcourt if he can hold off New Orleans guard Chris Paul (867,889).
San Antonio's Tim Duncan (1,132,095) is the leading vote-getter among Western Conference forwards. Phoenix's Amare Stoudemire holds a slim lead over Denver's Carmelo Anthony (725,411) for the second starting spot.
Houston's Yao Ming (1,396,126) leads all West centers in votes.
Paper balloting will continue through Jan. 11 with wireless tallies ceasing Jan. 19, three days before the announcement of the starters for both conferences.
The All-Star Game will be played on Feb. 15 in Phoenix.

Hmm...I think Granger is the second best of all the forwards, especially with Boston falling off some. He should definitely make it as a reserve.

I don't want to bring up this old debate but I think that if the fans vote him in, Yi deserves to be at the all-star game. All-star starter voting isn't meritocratic, it's democratic. And with good reason, it's the fans' game. Regardless, a majority of the players gets picked by the coaches. And even if there are snubs, I don't think the all-star game is necessarily about giving recognition to players. It's about the fans seeing who they want to see play. At the end of the year, those truly deserving will get all-NBA honors (not restricted by Conference or injuries).

Which is one of the reasons I have little or no use for (any) All-Star games.

Yup. I enjoy it but I give all-star recognition little merit. I'm more excited about Danny's all-NBA prospects (if any). That means you are solidly in the top 15-20 players in the NBA. Reggie and JO had fewer such accolades.

I had made more or less the same comment within the last couple of weeks.

I don't like AS games because of the Yi issue (and I see it as an add'l chance to get hurt), but I think that Danny getting the nod from the coaches is an honor for Danny and brings positive recognition to the team.

However, I agree that if Danny can somehow make one of the All NBA teams, that would be a real accomplishment.

Say Danny finishes 4th in scoring and Pacers finish a couple games under .500. Is there any chance he makes third team all NBA?

I liked Clark Kellogg's suggestion of expanding the rosters to 15 spots to be able to recognize more players who deserve to be, whether they actually play during the game or not.

I just think that Hedo will be picked ahead of Danny. Danny deserves it more. But I think because of Orlando's record, Hedo is sexier.

Granger will make an all-star team, but I doubt he gets there this year. If only the coaches were voting, he would be a lock for at least reserve.
