Default Boozer's plans to opt out can the pacers sign him?

I wanna know how much money the pacers have to sign a free agent? and if they could sign Carlos Boozer, he could be the answer for them in the pf position.

Money aside.. He has to want to come here. I just don't think we are competitive enough to be an attractive destination to free agents that are currently in winning situations.

Rumor is he'll take the MLE so he can play in a "hot spot" like Indy in the winter.

His defense is way too suspect for his contract.

So a big Iverson fan are you?

Yea yea I know his offense > suspect defense.

The same could be said for Boozer though.

i thought the most telling part of the article was this portion:

Jazz coach Jerry Sloan has been uncharacteristically effusive in his praise for Millsap during Boozer's absence, and O'Connor told ESPN.com on Wednesday: "We intend to keep Paul Millsap. I don't know how much more succinct I can be."
we can't sign boozer simply because we don't have the cap space. the most we could offer is the mid level, and boozer isn't going to sign for that.

there was some discussion on the possibility of getting millsap, but the jazz seem pretty sincere about keeping him. reading between the lines, it seems like they might be willing to let boozer walk and keep millsap instead.

Boozer aside, what is our next summer cap space looking like since we signed Granger to an extension?

We have none. We could maybe sign someone to an MLE, but we'd have to let most, if not all of our expirings go.

Assuming we re-sign Jarrett Jack at a reasonable rate ($4mm-ish), we could possibly afford to do one of the following:

    1. Re-sign Rasho at a reduced rate
    2. Pick up Quis' option (but this puts us very close to the luxury tax)
    3. Sign a player to the full MLE.

One other factor is where we pick. If we end up with a Top-5 pick, that guy will cost us around $3mm, while a pick in the mid-teens will be less than $2. That could be a large enough difference to knock off a couple of the options above.

Random comment, but speaking of fantasy teams ... Do we have an "Avatar of the Year" thread/contest? Your honey here, Bellisimo, routinely makes me want to become a mechanic in the worst way....

Boozer has retracted the seriousness of his comments as well. He claims that "opting out" means exploring his options and not necessarily leaving Utah.

    Not sure I believe that.

    I'm sure Cleveland doesn't!

It would be wise and prudent Utah doesn't either.

We most likely have to sign Jack too, and with the way that Daniels is playing, theres a small possibility that we might pick up his option
"So, which one of you guys is going to come in second?" - Larry Bird before the 3 point contest. He won.

There's serious talk of Boozer being on the block, and considering the Jazz's situation, I tend to believe it.

I highly doubt that. I think Bird views Rush as this teams future at SG. It's not much of a bargain at 7 mil for Daniels, so I don't see us picking it up. Now if it was, say, 3 million or so, he would have a lot of value at that rate, so we'd probably pick that up, but not at 7 mil.
