    Default thinking about distance education...advice

Thinking of getting my degree online. I need some advice though.

Considering three schools at the moment. Indiana State, Ball State, and Northwood University.

I am really interested in Indiana State's business program online. However I have thought about general studies I just don't know what I would do with a degree in GS.

Has anyone taken or know anyone has takes courses online through any of these schools? I am wondering how the classes are. I'd like to take classes somewhere with a good online system.

One thing I do hate about my online class right now is the mid term and final have to be taken on campus. To me that defeats the purpose of an online class in a way. I want to be able to do everything online.

Just looking for information on these schools or any other school that might be good online.

Thanks to anyone who can give any information.

I have taken most of my computer programming courses online at IUPUI, and sometimes it can be a real pain in the ***. The videos are not always informative enough.

My main piece of advice is to make sure you leave yourself enough time to watch the instructional videos and do the assignments. My online classes typically require the most work from me of all of my classes, and are also the most time-consuming.

I did most of my IT degree classes at Ivy Tech online through the Gary campus while sitting at work at the Bloomington campus. lol

    I loved it.

I've never taken an on line course, but I am a grad from Indiana State. Speaking as a graduate I'd say the number one drawback to taking an on-line course is you'd miss out on that pungent odor that permeates the town when the wind is blowing in the correct direction.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

I haven't taken any classes at any of those schools, but I did get my degree with about half of my classes via correspondance. The hardest thing is being disciplined and focusing on every assignment and getting everything turned in on time. Good luck in whichever way you go. I don't know much about Norwood Univ., but I do know Ball State and Indiana State are good colleges. I would shy away from a general studies degree. I have seen a lot of the clients I serve coming out of college and having a good degree of difficulty finding jobs that are worth the pay with a GS degree. I recommend to take your time and by the time you're start your junior year you may have figured out which speciality you may want to do.

    Thanks for all the advice.

The other option I am thinking about is Columbia Southern University.

My concern with them is being respected by employers. Does anyone have any info on them?

    Thank you.

If you are concerned with any school being respected by an employer don't go there. Even if BSU or IU is more that is money well spent if it means the difference between getting a job that is going to sustain your livelihood.

No most people could care less where you get your degree. They just want you to have them. The only way its gonna help is if someone hiring went to the same school.

I'm not really worried about it. I went to IU-Bloomington and I got a great first job. I work with people from all sorts of schools. Seriously if I was hiring someone I would not give a **** where they went. Everyone I know that hires people thinks the same way.

Yep, you got a good job because IU is a good school.

I understand your sentiments but I do some hiring for my job and the upper management is pretty snobby about what school potentials come from.

I really think that depends on what type of work you do.

I forgot to add that you need to make sure the university is accredited. I have a friend who shelled out some big money only to find out his degree was worthless once he began to look for a job.
