Default Mobley Fails Physical; Knicks Have Yet To Sign Off (Update: Trade done)

Cuttino Mobley has failed the physical administered after he and Tim Thomas were traded to New York in exchange for Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins.

The delay was earlier described as a "paperwork" matter but it was revealed that the Knicks were investigating concerns about the condition of Mobley's heart.

Mobley will meet with another doctor on Tuesday.

The Knicks are not expected to void the deal. A team may waive the requirement that a player pass his physical to complete a trade.

Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins were forced to sit out Monday's game waiting for the trade to become final.

I was unaware of Mobley having a heart condition.

supposedly it's a ploy by walsh to get more out of the clips

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_yl...yhoo&type=lgns

League executives said the Knicks’ concerns centered on Mobley’s heart, but one source says the veteran guard has played with the issue dating to the start of his career with the Houston Rockets. The source said when Mobley played for the Rockets, he signed an agreement excluding the team from any liability related to the issue.

Two team executives and an agent expected the deal to still be completed by Tuesday but believe Knicks president Donnie Walsh is trying to leverage the Clippers into sweetening their offer. The Clippers agreed on Friday to send Mobley and Tim Thomas to the Knicks for Randolph and guard Mardy Collins. The Knicks initially asked for center Marcus Camby instead of Mobley, but the Clippers balked.

“Donnie’s a pro,” said one Western Conference executive. “He knows what he’s doing.”
i can't believe walsh would really turn down the chance to ship z-bo out for a shorter contract, no matter how healthy mobley really is

I think that the NBA needs to be careful with those with heart conditions. Awareness is important. With that said I think this is clearly something that was discussed when Mobley was signed and not thought of when he was traded.

Give the Knicks a 2nd rounder and let it go.

Cardiac rehab is the area I'm going into with my degree, so this and Eddy Curry's condition always spikes my interest.

I know it's against confidentiality regulations, but I wish they would release what kind of condition he has. I know the info said Curry had an 'enlarged' heart, but that's such a blanket condition. (meaning it really doesn't tell much because I seriously doubt his whole heart is enlarged, and when you use the term enlarged you usually are talking about the atria)

But yeah, uncovering these conditions in players really shows how extensive their phsyicals really are. You don't find these conditions by listening to their chests with a stethoscope.

Although it occured under a different GM.....how ironic is it that the Knicks now are concerned about taking on a Player with a Heart condition when they were willing to take one on when they initially acquired Eddy Curry.

I'm guessing it's DWs way of squeezing more out of the Clippers. Thankfully, Sterling is a cheap Owner......hopefully he doesn't give into this ploy.

This is David West, he is the Honey Badger, West just doesn't give a *****....he's pretty bad *ss cuz he has no regard for any other Player or Team whatsoever.

That's interesting. I though having a bad heart was a prerequisite of being a Knick.

    Fixed.
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

You have no chance. Read TCT sometime. There are at least a dozen other more worthy candidates in there for that award (including yours truly ).
