    Default NBA Random Thoughts 2008-2009

Season is almost upon us and I am getting the hankering for some random thoughts.

Thought one - My knicks are in trouble and the season hasn't started

Thought two - Is Greg Oden ready to play for the full season and how will he fit into the very young Blazers team

More will come. Add your own thoughts through the season.

That would be a site to see. I haven't been able to catch any knicks games yet, in fact no NBA preseason games but that will change once the season starts.

You know what makes me mad.

The NBA gets no respect from the other professional sports leagues.

The Super bowl is now in February - which moves the NBA Allstar game to almost late February.

But what really makes me mad is MLB - baseball has moved their World Series back to the point now it interfers with the NBA's opening week. And then baseball wonders why it is raining and cold at the end of October.

Seems like the NBA always has to work their schedule around the NFL and MLB - I don't like it. And this year, there is no talk about the season opening tonight because of the World Series. I hope it rains and snows in Phildelphia for the next week and they never get to play game 5.

Yes I know the NFL is king - but MLB is only marginally more popular than the NBA

I fully agree and being from Canada all I hear about here is the NHL which takes over all of the sports channels and newspapers. I havent heard anything about this being the opening night for the NBA yet. it is getting to be a pain in the butt.

So when NHL playoffs start up you can forget about NBA on the sports channels. I hate hockey.

Oden vs Bynum on opening night - not bad. Speaking of the Blazers, I hope Jerryd Bayless is a bust, and I know I'm not the only one.

I'm curious to see what happens in Motown over the course of the season. They made practically no changes (btw, where has Kstat gone to?), and I expect there will be a mid-season trade or two involving them this season.

If you really think about it, we made quite a few rotation changes (Amir Johnson starting, Rodney Stuckey becoming a major part of the offense), as well as a system change.

Personnel wise we didn't change, but the team should look very different from last year. A lot more youth in the rotation, and we play a different style.

Only way I see a major change is if a team dangles a malcontent star in exchange for Sheed's expiring deal. I don't think we're going to be sellers.

    I said malcontent star....

I doubt Zach Randolph's defense would ever be welcomed here.

No one in their right mind goes up against the championship games of a series. The NFL didn't have a Sunday night game because of the World Series.

The NBA has a game practically every night so how is that working around the NFL?

I'm counting on Stuckey for my fantasy team.

    Blazers vs LA, opening night.

Oden went down after 13 minutes of play...from the replay looked like at least a weeker to me.

Bayless did not dominate. 3 pts, 2 boards, 2 pf, 2 TO

Ike had a couple of points, a couple of boards.

It was not a competitive game....Lakers by 20.

I watched quite a bit of the Blazers/Lakers game.

The Lakers looked very, very good, especially on defense. Kobe shut Brandon Roy down completely. Roy had to make 5 of his last 6 shots just to wind up shooting 33%.

Bynum was not all that impressive.

Oden rebounded and defended well, but picked up two quick fouls and then got hurt. He showed no offensive game at all and appeared to be even more of a black hole than Diogu.

Bayless only played garbage time minutes. He's clearly stuck behind Roy, Fernandez, Blake, and Rodriguez.

Fernandez looked like the best player on the court for the Blazers while Roy was being guarded by Kobe.

Channing Frye looked putrid. I used to think he'd be a good pick-up for the Pacers.

After looking at some box scores, here's a few observations:

The Cavs are not going to win many games unless they get Big Z more shots. Five is not enough.

In a related issue, the Bucks are playing the Bulls who are notoriously week inside and Bogut goes 4-4 in 25 minutes of play. He needs to be taking 10+ shots a game.

Joe Alexander (DNP-CD) played 26 fewer minutes than Luc-Richard Mbah-a-Moute.

i've watched the first half of cavs-celtics and bucks-bulls game entirely.

cavs needs to improve defensively and ilgauskas should help james and williams offensively.

celtics looked better than cavs especially defensively. paul perce plays like he did last year.

bulls is looking better than bucks. they had to much turnover just like bucks. rose isn't good as a scorer but he's good getting other players into the game. i think he'll turn into a decent player but he doesn't have superstar material.

bucks need andrew bogut on the court all the time. his presence in the paint and good passiing skills make jefferson and redd play better. they desperately need a pg. ridnour was for the lack of a better word disaster last night. it's like he forgot how to play basketball completely. when sessions come back from injury he will be on the court most of the time.

they are just the first games of the season. it's early to talk about teams but i didn't like the way bulls and bucks play. since they are in the same division with us it's a good thing.

I read somewhere that Kareem Rush won the starting job in Philly, he had a pretty good statline in their last preseason game. Makes sense because they badly need perimeter shooting.
