Default Man, Heroes really disappointed me

I DVR'ed it and watched it last night. Man, was I disappointed. I guess they decidede to throw all characterizations out the window and make everyone an idiot. Some of my gripes?

*Hiro-Hiro used to be an honorable, thoughtful guy. Now he just wants to have fun and damn the reprecussions. He comes across as an egomanic who'll do anything and defy anyone to satisfy his lust for adventure. Man, they screwed him up.

*Peter-Another previously thoughtful, empathetic guy. Now he's just an unthinking one man wrecking crew.

*Mohinder-Yeah, let's spend all last season building up your quest for knowledge to honor your father and help others, then make you do a 180 personality shift and turn you into a reckless power seeker with dubious motives. Him and Hiro used to be the moral center of the show. Now they're just some selfish jerk looking out for themselves. Given the state of the world, it never occurred to Mohinder that given the destructive traits of society, that maybe giving EVERYONE superpowers might just lead to the end of not only civilization, but the world in, oh....about six months?

*Parkman- Hey moron! You're in the desert. Wearing black. And long sleeves. It never occurred to you to take off your outer shirt and cover your head with it? Mr. Detective using that ole grey matter, huh?

Wow, they just threw everything out the window and remade almost every "hero" as a self-centered jerk.

At least I got to stare at the hottest looking character on television for two hours: Maya

I like how a wicker closet door kept Silar from Claire.

This is intentional. This season is called villains. It is an attempt to express the duality in everyone.

Yeah, the point of the chapter went a little far over your head...

If you didn't already catch the other hint, many of the villians are going to be "heroes" themselves in chapter 3. Sylar is clearly going to be fighting on the good side.

I understand what they're going for, but you don't throw away all previous characterization to do it.

That's like exploring duality by having Batman start petting kittens and Superman killing people. It was WAY overboard for me. That's not exploration. That's mischaracterization. It just didn't work for me. My biggest gripe is that previously intelligent people are suddenly acting like 10 year olds.

...except those aren't rounded characters. Heroes isn't about superheroes, they're about normal people with extraordinary powers.

I figure Sylar will switch over once one of the level 5 people kicks his *** around a bit. At least Sylar is entertaining.
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

I'm so far behind in this show, it's nuts. Is it worth catching up on?

I know Hayden is still looking fine as hell, so that's one point for catching up.

Peter was OK because it was 4 years in the future Peter. However Saresh deciding to dope himself up without any testing was goofy- and now he has leprosy.

Same as last season from what I've seen. OK & mildly amusing but a big drop from Season 1.

Indy, I think it's worth catching up...the writers for the show have proven to be pretty together in the past. Still one of the more entertaining shows on TV.

I figure it's her Evil Twin Sister and we'll find out Jessica only created Nikki to defend herself against ETS.

Who knows - I believe this show is going to head down the Lost trail of completely ignoring the rules of internal consistency.

Perfectly encapsulates what I was saying. I'll stick with it to see what happens, but Lost eventually made me turn away and I never looked back. I hope Heroes doesn't do the same.

I also like seeing Marlo on this season of Heroes from The Wire.

I didn't watch a Lost ep last season. With Heroes I'm at the point right now where I'll watch it if it's convenient but I've lost enough interest to where I doubt I'll even bother pushing the record button when I have something else going on.

I enjhoyed the first season quite a bit. Did not watch any of the second season, so I decided to give the 2 hour premiere a chance but it just really didn't hold my attention.

It is always great to see actors from the Wire do other shows - more than anything it just gives a little indication just how good the Wire is, because the actors never seem nearly as compelling on other shows

ok...those level 5 villains were pretty disappointing.

we're all of 3 eps in and 2 are frickin dead already, and the other two got brushed aside by Syler like they weren't even there.

Those guys were 2 levels more dangerous than Syler why, exactly?

In the meantime, Syler has found a 560th new cool ability, making him 50 times as powerful as anybody else in the show except Peter.

In contrast, all the other heroes are looking less special and more boring because either Syler or Peter already HAS all of their abilities, or both.

The only other characters left remotely interesting are Hiro and the speed girl, but either Syler or Peter will absorb her power too.

I was on board with the first 2 eps because I thought the level 5 villains would provide a collective equal for Syler. Now it's just become the Peter and Syler show, with little side-stories.

That's really how I felt. I was expecting mroe out of the level 5 villains, considering all the protection they used to have them contained. What's the point of the buildup if Sylar just kicks their *** anyway?

I wouldnt call him good. He did kill the one guy to take his power. I do agree that it is Syler vs peter for who can get more powers. I still like the show for other reasons that just the super powers though.

Every Hero has a villain. The villains may not be people. That makes them ordinary people with super powers. But now it seems that Syler and Peter (future Peter that is) are Super Hero and Super Villain.

But wouldn't present Peter absorb Future Peter's powers?

I try to be patient with shows and frankly I've really liked hero's up to this point.

However right now I'm getting a little sick of the whole time travel thing. To me it is deminishing the powers that the people have at present. Instead of using them in the here and now for the benefit or detriment of mankind it is all about what is in the future or what might be or what could be or well you get it.

I like the characters, I still like the show, but right now I'm starting to get a little drug down by the whole time jumping thing.

I think I may be jumping ship. Too many other well written shows to get behind to better spend my time upon. Too bad. Check out this review of last episode, which seems to have brought up some point I made earlier.

Somebody’s Dad Turns Up On Tonight’s HEROES!! Too Late??

    I am – Hercules!!

The ratings for “Heroes” continue their steep slide (“How I Met Your Mother” drew a bigger rating for the first time last Monday) and I have to admit I’ve finally decided to join the multitude jumping ship. We finally meet Arthur Petrelli tonight (played by Robert Forster, who looks nothing like the Arthur Petrelli we saw in that group photo), but I cannot get excited about the debut of Nathan and Peter’s pop. Following Peter’s ludicrous showdown at FutureSylar’s house, I have zero confidence left in this series’ writers.

(If Nathan’s laughable “flight” last week was any indication, NBC-Universal may no longer have enough confidence in the show to give it a reasonable effects budget. It reminded me of the hideous flying effects that attended "Superman IV" as Cannon tried to milk just a few more dollars out of that spent franchise.)
From Wikipedia’s entry on “idiot plot”:
In literary and film criticism, an idiot plot is a plot which (in the words of the Turkey City Lexicon), "functions only because all the characters involved are idiots: They behave in a way that suits the author's convenience, rather than through any rational motivation of their own." Alternate formulations describe only the protagonist as being an idiot.
And, indeed, Peter, Nathan, Noah, Angela, Hiro, Claire, Sylar and other major characters all seem to have had most of their IQs slowly sapped away by the Haitian over the last two seasons.

Sorry, Heroes. I'll watch if I'm in front of the TV, but I'm putting Life on Mars in your viewing slot and pin my hopes for entertaining Sci-Fi on Fringe.
