Default Chinese ball club interested in David Harrison

According to Wu Di, the spokesperson of Liaoning basketball team, they are interested in bringing in the former Pacers center David Harrison in the coming up season.

"There is a Pacer center named David." said Wu Di, " He was an occasional starter, but did not play much last season."

David Harrison is in the try-out list of the ball club, other players are from Angola and other contries.

Liaoning province is in northeast of China, and Liaoning basketball team lost to Guangdong in the CBA Finals last season. (Yi Jianlian played for Guangdong before heading to NBA last year).

I looked at the CBA Official Website. While these teams were listed:

    Albany Patroons
    Butte Daredevils
    East Kentucky Miners
    Great Falls Explorers
    Minot Skyrockets
    Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry
    Pittsburgh Xplosion
    Rio Grande Valley Silverados
    Yakima Sun Kings

there was absolutely no mention of "Liaoning" or "Guangdong".....
    What gives???

David Harrison Goes to China sounds like a good movie title. I would probably be quite comedic.

CBA in this case refers to the Chinese Baseketball Association not the Continental Basketball Association.

So this would mean if Harrison ends up going to the Liaoning Hunters,
then he would be seeing these opponents:

    Bayi Rockets
    Beijing Ducks
    Dongguan Leopards
    Fujian Xunxing
    Guangdong Southern Tigers
    Jiangsu Dragons
    Jilin Northeast Tigers
    Shaanxi Kylins
    Shandong Lions
    Shanghai Sharks
    Shanxi Zhongyu
    Xinjiang Flying Tigers
    Yunnan Bulls
    Zhejiang Horses

I love it, and truly hope he does indeed end up on the Liaoning Hunters!

Edit: Now if we could only get the Beijing Ducks interested in Tinsley...

That's alright, my friend. CBA is an acronym for a lot of stuff. It took me a while to confirm whether or not a Chinese Basketball Association even existed. So, don't feel bad.

(Sidenote: If it makes you feel better there is a Chinese team currently in the International Basketball League w/one more to be added this upcoming 2009 season. Of course, if you didn't know the IBL even existed, well...know you know; it was once the old CBA ole Zeke once had but was re-started about 4 yrs ago.)

    HC,

Well, despite Baby Shaq's under achieving, I still think he could be a very good player if he could just get out of his own way. It's obvious no NBA team wants him. I'm willing to bet two issues have soured teams against him: 1) lack of maturity (temperment); 2) drugs (marijuana use).

He's got only himself to blame for no NBA team wanting him (especially when it comes to the Pacers not wanting to retain him). Regardless of where David Harrison winds up this year, he'll definitely "wise-up" before too long. As I'm sure most former NBA players could tell him (i.e., Kareem Rush), playing overseas and/or not being wanted by the NBA after once having played in the league will undoubtedly humble you quick! Then again, should he get picked up by a foreign team it could be a blessing in disguise.

I don't remember his name, but I recall reading about a former lesser known NBA player who went through a similar turn of events in his brief NBA career as David Harrison. Only once he stopped fighting it and instead embraced his foreign celebraty, it turned out he had a better basketball career overseas than he ever had in the NBA. Who knows...perhaps DH will go through a similar transformation. Nonetheless, the opportunity was here for David to truly excel and he blew it.

You know, when I seen how excited he was just to be the last 1st rd pick I was happy for him. These days......not so much.

Again, David Harrison simply lacked maturity. By his own admission, he took coming into the NBA for granted. Up until recently, he still viewed the approach to preparing for the NBA much as he did during his college days (para-phrasing from an article that came out of Denver over the summer while he was trying out for the Nuggets). BIG MISTAKE!

I think both RC and JOB were fair with him. They gave him chances to improve. He just didn't take it serious enough soon enough. By the time he did "sober up" (re: when he was suspended by the league for drug use), it was too late. I think by then Bird/JOB saw more than enough to know they weren't going to get anything more out of him. Still, from what little I saw of David, I still think he could be a good rotation player if he would just dedicate himself to the game. Until recently, I think he saw the NBA as just another pump in the road and not as a serious career choice.

You are right on all accounts, but it doesn't make me want to hear his name in the news any more or less. I could really care less what he does, as long as it isn't with the Pacers.

I agree. I'm ready to move on to the next Big Man project that is Roy Hibbert. I think he'll be the first Center the Pacers have drafted (or shall I say acquired since we got him in the JO trade) since Harrison and Foster. It's gonna be interesting to see how he fits in over the next 2-3 years.

I am hoping and praying that Hibbert pans out. That would be huge for this team....pun intended

    Ditto!

While I didn't believe the Pacers would have gone far into the post-season last year had they made it, I do believe they were post-threat away from truly competing. Post play remains their biggest questionable area, but hopefully Foster, Murphy and Rasho can hold it down. I'll even throw in Baston and Hibbert for good measure.

He is big and very athletic for a guy so Big. He has starting capabilities skill-wise and physically, imho.

He has all of the failings of a selfish/coddled athlete. I would hope looks back 15 years from now with grave disappointment. That would actually be a good thing for David Harrison the person.

David's problem is he doesn't care about anyone but himself and he has the maturity of a spoiled 14 year old rich girl.

China, Japan both sound like good places for him, just not Indiana.

Hibbert is the Bizarro world David Harrison in his psyche and emotional make up, it's pretty refreshing.
