    Default Pick 5

I know its early, however just for fun after listening to all the interviews, commentaries, and pd opinions, lets pick our starting five @ the first game of regular season.

I'm gonna go with the veteran group.

    TJ Ford PG
    D Granger SG
    M Dunleavy SF
    T Murphy PF
    J Foster C

I think JOB goes with experience, hustle, and firepower at the start. Defense is probably ok (@ best) with these players and their bball IQ.

The second unit will be a mix of youth and veterans probably in just about any order as far as guessing goes at the moment.

    Thoughts?

Also; Thanks to all the PD folks for giving me a daily dose of laughter and opinions

I think you are right. The season may end with this starting line-up or it may not. But it will begin this way.
And I won't be here to see the day

I really think alot of Hibbert, but no way do I see him starting. Why do you think he will start over T Murphy especially the way T Murphy played post allstar?

Should we maybe consider leaving Dunleavy on the bench in favor of bringing him in as a 6th man and for scoring punch with the second unit? Thereby maybe starting Rush or Jack?

I don't know? I can't see MD coming off the bench unless Rush plays way beyond early expectations. I don't know enough about Jack, but I feel like MD is a fan fave and I think he does an awful lot of moving without the ball which IMO is a great thing.

This is my pick as well, but it wouldn't shock me to see O'Brien play for offense by swapping Jeff with Troy.

Has Rasho ever been close to Murphy's averages? Is he a better defender than Murphy? I really don't know, I never really watched him play.

I thought Rasho would start at first, but then again, I don't think we'd stick him in the starting slot right away over a more accustomed Foster.

Dun probably won't be the sixth man right away either. Hopefully as the season progresses, Rush develops to the point to where we can bring Dun off the bench.

i think maceo doesn't get enough credit, he plays well above and around the rim, can run, and puts effort on both ends

For those who don't mind - if I might develop the MD thing a bit more---

So I agree that Rush might not be ready to start yet - and I also don't know a lot about Jack. And I agree that MD is a fan favorite. However --- I think Detlef and AD were fan favorites as well, off the bench. And both were gifted players. I also think it would be hard to take a guy like Dunleavy out of the lineup in the middle of the season. Just from a chemistry/flow of the game viewpoint.

Even if Rush isn't ready to start, presumed that he is the starter of the future, and this year isn't a year we are going to contend for a championship - I don't know that its a bad idea to start Rush.

Rasho is a solid defender- miles ahead of Murphy and a better scorer than people realize.

I like Murphy off the bench too. I think its important to set a defensive tone at the start of the game and a Jeff/Rasho big man combo will do that. Both also do a lot of dirty work offensively and I think will be perfect for Ford, Dunleavy and Granger to go to work. Then when you have Murphy as your scoring punch off your bench you are in good shape as opposed to bringing Jeff in for Troy when its 20-14 with 5 minutes left in the first with the defense already reeling. That's too tough a job to ask of Jeff.

Also Jeff should never play Center again if Hibbert pans out. Rasho/Hibbert is a good center combination with good size.

    1st unit

    PG TJ
    SG DunDun
    SF Danny
    PF Murphy
    C Rasho

    2nd unit

    PG Jack
    SG Rush
    SF Shawne
    PF Foster
    C Roy

I think Rasho -if not traded by then- will start at C with Jeff coming off the bench at PF. Roy hopefully will develop nicely behind Rasho and Jeff and I could see him start at the end of the season to build for the next one as Rasho won't probably be back. I'd love to see Maceo play more but I cannot see a configuration where he would have more than junk time or "benefits" from an injury. He's a good insurance and it feels good to know you have a solid big man like him if something goes wrong.
Obviously Marquis doesn't appear in anybody's plan but I could see JOB play him as the first back up SG at the beginning of the season. He'll have to play and will be played anyway and it will be likely at the detriment of Rush or Shawne

That sounds reasonable, thanks. Does Rasho have the outside range, to spread the floor, like Murphy? I agree with your defensive mindset.

Someone mentioned M Baston, I liked watching him play, I can't remember if he is very quick around the basket or has good post moves, but it seems like he was good at finishing things up and was a huslter.

I don't think this will be the case for opening night, but I think once Hibbert gets comfortable, his size and defense will be valuable to the 1st unit. Rasho probably starts the season at the 5.
