Default A couple questions for the ABA

How do you guys want to do the playoff format?

We don't need to decide right away but I would like to get some feedback, just to get an idea on how everyone feels about it.

In the past we've had 8 of the 12 teams per conference make it in, the 2 division winners then the next 6 best by winning percentage.

However that was with a 24 team league, looks like we'll only have 20 this season.

With a 10 team conference, how many should make the playoffs?

Are you in favor of the division winners getting a bye?

I'd say we can do 7 for each division, and let the division winner have a bye. Seems like a fair deal, and gives guys incentive not to tank at the end of the season to save player-games. Makes the league more competitive.

Nice idea but you're in the other league. I knew this was bound to happen, no big deal.

For now I'm calling the keeper league the PD KL 2, but I'm trying to come up with somethng a little more creative.

This thread is for those in the ABA, its a non-keeper league we've had for many years.

A bye means that the winners of the 4 divisions set out the first round.

    An example:

    Playoff rankings

    team 1 - division winner
    team 2 - division winner
    team 3
    team 4
    team 5
    team 6

The 1st round games would be

    team 3 vs. team 6
    team 4 vs. team 5

The 2nd round games would be

The winner of the team 3 vs. team 6 series, against team 1

The winner of the team 4 vs. team 5 series, against team 2

    Same thing in both conferences

6 of 10 make it, and 2 byes in each conference
    or
7 of 10 make it, 1 bye in each conference

    seem equally good to me

8 of 10 with no byes makes the reg season pretty meaningless at the top and the bottom, and 5 of 10 with 3 byes seems kind of silly.

After reading others thoughts, I would like to vote for 6 of 10 per conference, with each division winner getting a bye.

That seems like a reasonable, and balanced number, for the size of the league

    I'm glad I ask.

I was going to go with the division winners & the next two teams based on record.

Thats 4 of 10 teams per conference advancing to the playoffs.

I say we go with whatever the majority wants.

Anyone else want to toss in your 2 cents?

edit: Having looked at it in print I think I like the 6 teams per conference option.

I'm cool with whatever direction you guys want to go.

I'm sure I'll be on the bubble, whichever direction we go, when it comes to playoff time.

I like to keep it interesting....lol

I'd agree with the send 12, 4 + 2 byes per conference. I think the incentive to win the division is interesting.

I actually really like the idea of 5 making it with 3 byes (even though putting it this way makes it sound quite ridiculous). It would be like the Wild Card game in football, plus, it would limit the playoff teams to only half of the entire league (like the NBA). The 3 byes would, of course, be both division winners and then the team with the best remaining record.

Only the last two teams would play for the 4th seed - consider it more of a Wild Card series to get into the playoff than the first playoff series. Then from there it's just an eight team tournament - three rounds.
