The Dark Knight is now up to 394 million dollars in the USA.

Expected to at least at 100 million more.
Cool - thanks to that article, I've found a decent inflation adjusted list. If The Dark Knight makes another $100 million domestic, it will barely scratch the top 30 movies all time.

    Check it out:

I'd argue that perhaps in this time of high gas/bad economy the fact that this movie was still selling out and people going repeated times should add something to it as well.

I'm far far from an expert or anything though.

Yeah, I think something like TDK attendance is inelastic.

It is true that Kevin Conroy is the best Batman.
"They could turn out to be only innocent mathematicians, I suppose," muttered Woevre's section officer, de Decker.

"'Only.'" Woevre was amused. "Someday you'll explain to me how that's possible. Seeing that, on the face of it, all mathematics leads, doesn't it, sooner or later, to some kind of human suffering."

I heard a rumor (from a National Enquier I read while on break at work, so take it with a grain of salt) that the Penguin and the Riddler were to be the villians in the next batman movie. Nolans choices are apparently Phillip Seymour Hoffman for the Penguin and Johnny Depp for the Riddler. They also said that Depp's loyalty to Tim Burton may cause him the decline the role (though I think Burton wouldn't care if Johnny took it).

What do you guys think of those possibilities?

If that's true, sounds like they may be falling into the same trap as Spiderman 3 - too many villains and plot lines for one movie. Guess it depends on how they play it but I'm not sure having both in the same movie's a good idea.

Actor choices are solid - PSH can do about anything and The Riddler suits Depp.

It's a false rumor that's been around for a while. Not at all true.

As for the too many villains trap, I'm not worried. Batman Begins had three villains (and other baddies), TDK has at least two, three if you count Maroni and more if you count any of the other mob people.

I think the Riddler and the Penguin are the villians best suited for this round of Batman movies. Deadshot may also be good. Mr. Freeze bores the hell out of me and I would be disappointed with that choice.

I think I've typed this 1000 times already, but Nolan said he doesn't find the Penguin believable either while he was working on Begins or right after it came out. So I'll believe he is going to use the Penguin when I see him confirm it.
I'm really hoping for the Riddler and Deadshot.

I watched The Dark Knight this weekend and enjoyed it a lot.

But the hype is way over the top. It is not one of my top 10, top 20, or even top 30 movies. It had too many story flaws and didn't really have a plot that I found I could sink my teeth into. It was just fun to look at--a real visual delight. It was quite a cinematic feat to effectively create the comic book mood and feel with action that didn't disappoint.

If I had to pick something to compare it to, I'd chose the impression that Blade Runner had on me in the in the 80s- I thought "Wow, this movies really takes me convincingly to another world and thoroughly entertains me, and I don't know what I'll see next." Barzil had a similar effect, though was of course harder to grasp.

But it's not like I ever gave any of the story lines of the Dark Knight much additional thought. It was nice eye candy IMO. That's not bad, in fact it's good, but it isn't any Casablanca, Taxi Driver, Shawshank Redemption, Psycho, Citzen Kane, etc. or even (more modestly) superior to action films like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Gladiator, Road Warrior, or any of the Lord of the Rings movies.

Again, it was a theater MUST-SEE for me, but just not an all-timer.

Last I heard, Nolan didn't like the Penguin because he's not grounded enough in reality. Raimi didn't like Venom and thus did a poor job with him. They would be wise not to push the Penguin onto Nolan.

Depp would probably make a very good Riddler, though.

That's a fan-made poster. Cool work, but very misleading to see it without a warning.

If that's real...then it looks awesome. If it's fanmade Kudos to whoever made it. They have some skill.

    It's not real.

I thought it was kind of cool until they go so far to spell it out to you that they literally give him a tattoo that spells out "Riddler" on his hand.....

Speaking of which, a lot of people across the 'net seem to be clamoring for him, but I don't get it. I'd have to hear Nolan and company's take on him to become a believer because otherwise he just sounds dull to me.

With that said, I don't immediately have an alternative.

How could you not be excited for the Riddler in Nolan's hands? I don't get how he is "dull".

What's he known for that is dangerous other than being mischievous and having an OCD problem leading him to leave clues for Batman, which will ultimately be his downfall?

I think the best villains (for the Nolan universe) have already been used. I think the only way to make the final act (which it needs to be) a knockout is to make redemption for Batman (as a symbol to Gotham) as difficult as possible, and then find a way to bring him back that doesn't feel contrived or lame. Find me a villain that allows them to do that. Oh, and they will somehow need to raise the stakes without being ridiculous (I have no clue how at this point, given what happens in this one).

The more I've thought about this, the more I hope they just stop here. If there is a third one, I'll pray it works out, and if Nolan is back it has a chance, but part 3 superhero movies have an awful track record, and I will be concerned. Despite being interested in a movie where Batman is the "villain," I just don't see it coming out as good as Begins or TDK.

They cannot simply become like any other franchise and just be more of the same with a different flavor of villain. It has to have its own unique stories and situations, or it won't work well.

Well, the one issue that the Riddler presents Nolan is this, the Joker he and Ledger created already has many Riddler like tendencies. I.E. the boat scene and the whole Rachel/Harvey situation. So in a way Nolan has already applied some of the Riddler and that does make him a bit redundant, but that is Nolan's fault.
Coming from your definition, I think you could say that in some past incarnations of Batman, the Joker is just as dull as the Riddler.

Also, I see nothing wrong with sticking with the formula that made Begins and TDK great movies. If you look at X3 and Spidey 3 the thing that screwed those movies up the most was go away from the tried and true formula that made the first two movies of those series good.

As far as another villian, I've been pushing for Deadshot for a while.
