Default Indianapolis & the All Star Game

For the longest time Walsh was opposed to bringing the All Star game back to Indianapolis. The main reason given was the the host team had to do all the work & got nothing back. The city reaped all the rewards while the Pacer employees had to do all the behind the scene works while the owners wrote the check.

With Walsh gone, does Bird feel the same way or do you think he would like to showcase the Fieldhouse & our city to the world?

Considering the Pacers are all about making the fan base happy he better not bring the All Star game here. From what I hear the local fan base gets pushed aside by the league and all the crap they bring with them.

Considering we're getting the Super Bowl and we've had the Big Ten and NCAA tournaments for years I don't really see how the NBA All Star game will add that much to the city's cred.

But that's just me. I think All Star games are a joke.

I think Larry probably has less interest than Donnie did. So I don't see it. Doubt the city leaders are really pushing for it either

Seeing its been in LAS VEGAS.. I don't really care much for the All-Star game.. They are obviously just reaching out to partying people and not real basketball fans.. The All Star game is a joke.. Most of the time I don't even watch it.. I enjoy watching the skills contest and three point contest.. Lately the Dunk Contest has not been very exciting.. But I watch that too..

It's just crazy.. I think.. To have a supposedly family oriented game hosted in SIN CITY..

I think it would go over well if it were to come here.

While the basketball "purists" clearly are disinterested in such theatrics,
there are many activities that come along with All-Star Weekend that the
kids love participating in, and could enjoy doing with their Fathers.

There are many "not-so-serious" fans who would have a wonderful time
    with it.

It was pretty cool last time it was here. Pacer TStansbury almost won the dunk contest.

Knowing the franchise is already losing money at this point, I'd be willing to bet, they don't want to spend a bunch of money to lose more money on the All-Star game.

While some of the events would be good for local community kids, to much of it is just hype for individual players and not team ball which seems to be the way the Pacers are trying to direct thier new image.

If it is good for Indianapolis and the surrounding area, yet a money pit for the host team, then maybe the city should foot the bill?

Of course the problem with that is- they're spending taxpayer $$$$ and who is to say how grounded in reality the projections of benefits to the city would really be?

I think the city has all the shootings it can handle for the time being. Wasn't Stern thinking of moving the All Star Game to Europe to try to prevent all the gangsters that flock to the game from shooting up another American city? I was in Vegas during that All Star Game where several shootings and one hushed-up murder in a Casino occurred. It was a nightmare.

LOL, the last thing we need here is an NBA All-Star game. Nobody even cares about the NBA here. There are a few of us who still like the Pacers but I don't know if even I'd go to the All-Star game.

That's good because, like the Super Bowl, you couldn't get in, anyway. Unless you're working or have a few thousand bucks.

Are you one of those guys complaining about how local fans don't get enough tickets to the Super Bowl? I don't really get that argument at all.
    Already stoked for 2013-2014.

Nah, the NBA can keep the All-Star game elsewhere.

Anytime ownership has to shell out big bucks, the cost is just passed on to the consumers. In this case, it would be passed to the STH's that can't even get into the game. The last thing the Pacers need is another reason to **** off STH's

As far as "let the city pay for it"... As long as the taxpayers pass it on a referendum. That pretty much assures that Indy doesn't host the event. By me, that's just fine!

I know that you can never get enough publicity, but with the new Lucas Oil Stadium and all the pomp surrounding it, I don't think we are hurting for the pub. At least at the price the All-Star game brings.

Whoah, I agree with most that the All-Star game would be nice, but I really think that what has already been said in this thread sums it up. Not only local "regular" basketball fans, but us STHs will get the shaft.

Us STHs are devoted to the team, otherwise we wouldn't have season tickets, right? To hold an event related to the NBA in our home arena, and shun us out is stupid. I agree, I'd love to have it, but it isn't worth the disappointment.

    Also, Robocop, not cool.

Do we really need more shootings in Indianapolis? Wasn't it last year were some crazy stuff happened in Vegas?

I would be for an All Star game here if the NBA, Pacers and the City of Indianapolis could come together and host the game at Lucas Oil Stadium. It would show of the city's newest digs and everybody that wants a ticket has the oppertunity to get a ticket.

The only problem is, the NBA passed a by-law that states that the All-Star games can only be hosted in an arena environment and not a "stadium" environment.

In this case, I think the NBA would be missing a golden oppertunity because the city could show off how Lucas Oil works out for hosting big basketball games. The place is designed to hold 70,000 with good sight lines for hoops. I guess that is why the place is the only place in a guranteed rotation for Mens and Womens Final Fours for the next25 years.

I guess the NBA will miss out.

Oh well, the NCAA Final Four and Championship draws more viewers than the NBA All-Star game. I think it will work out for the best.

    I blame Stern-Boy.
