Folks, this thread will remain open as long as it's about a man's life, and not about making political remarks or arguments, et al. Park the political commentary at UnPD, and the thread can stay. - Mal
I know we have UnPD for political matters but I don't think this is inherently political. I just feel obligated - living in Massachusetts - to give my best wishes to the Senior Senator representing my commonwealth in the U.S. Senate.
If you hadn't heard, Senator Kennedy was diagnosed this afternoon with a malignant brain tumor following a seizure only a few days ago in Hyannisport, Massachusetts (about 30 minutes away from me actually).
Wow, that's terrible. Best wishes to Ted. Leaving politics out of this completely...you still have to feel sorry for the guy. He's dedicated his life to doing what he thinks is right for this country and you don't want anyone who put so much effort into public service to be caught in such dire straits.
If this is mistaken as political, then well, the forum admins have the right (as I am not an admin or owner/founder of the board), but it is about regard for human life, NOT politics.
You say that, then you go ahead with a political comment. No, thank you. -Mal
And I feel regret and sorrow for his family.
How is mentioning *removed* (seriously?) political? It is an event. It is historical. It has no political sway (to the left or the right). It just "is". One cannot rewrite history. History should be shown in its true form. You of all people (aren't you an educator?) should know that.
If you knew me, then you would know that I don't subscribe to the two major political parties. As I said, do as you wish, but I NEVER mentioned a political affiliation either way.
I find bringing up a stain in his history on a thread that's about the man dying from cancer to be political at worst, out of place and unnecessary at best.
Thanks for taking a shot at me while you were defending yourself.
Sorry to be so "un-PC", but it is the truth. "Stains" or not, it is the truth. It was only a "shot" if that is how you were to take it. I wasn't aiming at personal potshots, but merely, pointing out that truth should be represented in all facets of life.
Anyways, back to the topic, I feel sorry for his family. The Kennedy family has had a rough time throughout the years.
I understand people feel that way about him. What I don't accept is using this thread as a place to discuss his warts. The man is dying, most likely. This isn't the time or the place for that. This about sending well-wishes for a man with a brain tumor. Disagree if you wish, but I feel strongly about this.
Don't really like the man, but I respect his last name very much. The mere fact that he was immediate family to JFK and RFK is enough to give him a slight benefit of the doubt that, despite his warts, he isn't a total toad.
The man has obviously done quite a bit of good and has served our fine country more than I have...
I hope he can have a decent life until the inevitable end, and I will pray for him and his family.
This isn't a dig or a joke I swear: I always thought he'd be one of those politicians that it'd be pretty awesome to get drunk with. He was on a list with George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, and a few others.
Anyway, I'm pretty bummed out to hear this. He's been in politics longer than I've been alive.
